one on eight

After posting away on the 9th, I feel like I haven't stopped moving. Wednesday, I had to get up early, get to work, rent a car, pick up LR and the gravity meter and such drive out to Etobicoke, pick up N (after stopping to have coffee and let the kitten stand on my shoulder, which apparently, is mandatory) and then drive them to Concord. Where is Concord? You know how York University is at the edge of the city? Past that. Where TTC will not venture. There was, of course, ice and snow and some sort of major accident on the highway, and a whole lot of N complaining bitterly about the traffic, and me reminding N that it was I behind the wheel not he. But, we made it to the manufacturers, an hour and a half later. There, we were forced to wear lab coats! Lab coats. I haven't worn a lab coat since 1st year Chemistry. People get the strangest ideas about scientists*. No. I tell a lie. I once wore a lab coat since I was making a gel cell holder inside of a giant pressure sphere with caulking... but that's another story. I just didn't want caulking on my jeans. The visitor lab coats were of course made for very large visiting MALE scientists and made me look like a child playing dress up. There was much fussing over the gravimeter. We were extremely popular. It [Murphy's Law] did not do what it was supposed to. Since then, there have been an inordinate number of emails and phone calls and harassment of innocent engineers on both sides of the border. Now, my spies tell me it appears to be working properly. I still have to go up there, AGAIN, maybe Tuesday (since Monday I have to invigilate an exam).

Yesterday, I had a review session for my students, and then spent a lot of time trying to solve problems. But, I got a new laptop, since mine is now dedicated to the gravimeter. It's a small, white, Toshiba. I am pleased, even if it does run Vista. Today, I don't think I've sat still for more than 20 minutes since I've arrived. It's just been one thing after another. Mercifully, next week, THEY ARE ALL GONE. Everyone but me is going to San Francisco ): or Arizona. I will miss going to SF, but I will enjoy the silence!

I was just about to post when I checked my friends' page and saw that itsolivia has tagged her readers, ah, which would mean me. So, I thought, two birds, one stone. Plus, I am a sucker for memes, as you have not doubt observed. Without further ado;
The Eight on Eight.
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.
Tag 8 people to do the same.

I TAG YOU.

ONE ON EIGHT: My articulated horse paper doll, from the Pin Pals, which I bought at the One of a Kind and cut out and assembled and put on my wall. It makes me happy to see how it interacts with the Indonesian shadow puppet which is articulated in a similar manner and the horse plaque. Simple things.

*My mother wanted to be Einstein for Halloween (don't ask, I don't know) and called me up to borrow my non-existent lab coat. I reminded her that the only lab coat I ever had was for 1st year chemistry and I had borrowed it from her.

psst... the City of Craft is TOMORROW.
