OK so today was prolly the worst day i have had since taking the job. maybe worst is not the right word because it was not too horrible. OK let me just tell how my day unfolded.

1:30 p.m I arrive at work as I always do. I go to my desk and check my e-mail to print off the crime reports that gets sent to us by the police departments. I get an e-mail from Kelly about a story. I proceed to make my Valley calls (which consists of calling every county that touches ours to make sure we are not missing anything). As I am doing that she hands me a story out of Leon County. When I call the county i get some added info for my story.

2:30 p.m I leave for rounds, which means going by police departments, DPS and the sheriff's office to see what happened overnight. As I am heading to the sheriff's office, I see a police and cones set up off one of the streets. I make a note and proceed. When I arrive at Bryan Police, I find out that the situation may be a potential hostage situation. umm YIKES.

3:30 p.m. Arrive at the site of what is going on. find our photographer who is out there. find out a woman has barricaded her self in her house after she assaulted her elderly mother earlier. Police said she had firearms and was a danger. umm YIKES again.
Parts of the road are closed. We (the media) and the police are set up at the apartment complex across the street. We are still trying to figure out what is going on. We get briefed by the PIO every 30 minutes. (and i may add he is an idiot and not good in this postion...but the bad part? i have a crush on him!! he is cute, married, but cute ) Ok any ways, i am like, man, this could be an all night thing.

6:30p.m. Get a call from Kelly to see what is going on. She says to come to get the laptop to work on my other story since i am sitting there waiting. So i do and she meets me outside with it, a cold Dr. Pepper and Wheat Thins. Aww I love her! she is soo cool and you wouldn't know she is 37!

7:00 p.m. Arrive back and begin writing. Problem is i didn't get all i wanted. I was supposed to come back after rounds and finish, obviously that didn't happen.
so i write what i could and continue to wait. I am hanging with the TV crews and they are pretty neat to hang with. however, we like make fun of them haha.

8:20 p.m. FINALLY she peacefully surrenders! get last minute comments and head back to Eagle central.

9:00 p.m. Arrive back at Eagle central and write like the wind. yes 7 hours later-RAR

I just got really frustrated because i did not get to finish what i was supposed to. that other story never got done as well as two briefs i had to write. I have visions of Kelly getting mad at me tomorrow...i hope that does not happen...
I almost left in tears. i know know how Sommer felt. this job can get demanding and suddenly you are in overdrive. I know it is not my fault per se, but i feel like i shoud have done more and that i am not doing enough. being a police reporter is not easy. and if any of you think my job is easy by any means, umm think again. it is hard when people don't corporate with you and it sucks when you have to stay at a hostage situation for five hours not knowing how it will end.it sucks when you are not even sure you are asking the right questions... i really do like my job, i just hope i made the right choice.

I know i should not feel like this, but i do. John says i am dong a good job and to just keep at it because i will continue learning and then it will come naturally.

man i sure hope so. I hope this is just a fluke...
