For a second I was all caught up in paper, 'cause that's the way she used to smell when the wind swept down from Canton and caught her curls in thier direction. And it was like time came up behind me and said, "Son, you've spent lifetime forgetting and now it's time that you remember."
So I drove up to Fire's Creek, right where we'd swim: Father Mountain. Parked the car, got out and sat on the hood and tried to look up at the stars like we used to.
But I don't recognize the sky from this point of view. No, I guess I never really looked at those lights; I was always looking at you.
During an hour or two I fell asleep. I was happy in my dream. God was there, I talked to him. I said if I never wake up...that would be alright with me.
