Houdini Cat

Though Milo's staples and stitches have been taken out, and though the wound on his neck is closed up, we are still keeping the jacket on him to keep the scabbed over area and the still tender hairless skin covered up. When the jacket is off, he scratches at it and it breaks open little areas on and around the scab.

He has been a good sport about not having instant access to cleaning the parts of his body covered up by the jacket, but I know at this point he's probably really tired of it. It's been over 3 weeks since his surgery and the jacket wearing.

Recently, he figured out how to get the jacket off. The first couple of times I couldn't figure out how he did it. But then I caught him in the act.

What he does is reaches with his mouth underneath his belly and yanks the velcro open. Then he moves around until the jacket is underneath him. Then he steps on the jacket with his foot and yanks his head/neck upward so that the velcroed area around his neck comes off. Then he will immediately proceed to step away from the jacket and start licking himself.

Yesterday morning, I came back from my run and as soon as I opened the door he came running out... jacketless.

So I went in search of the jacket. It took me a while and then I found it...

This is obviously a very pointed statement at Randy and myself.

I took the jacket and found him right outside the door, enjoying the feel of the warm cement on his backside. The itchies that have been multiplying and partying in the jacket canopy were getting a run for their money.

I let him have a few more minutes to enjoy himself and then I placed the jacket back on him. He complied in wearing it for about 24 hours and then just took it off a few minutes ago.

I'm currently taking inventory of things that I have that I can use to keep the jacket on him. Duct tape? Safety pins? Krazy Glue? Rope?

If he gets out of any of those, then I may just have to rename him Houdini.
