The Sea (For mini_muses Prompt 17.2)

"Listen, because this is a really scary story even though it doesn't seem that way right away." said Lynn, to her little brother. Mommy had her babysitting today, and she HATED babysitting. It was boring and little kids never seemed to do anything fun.

"Once upon a time, there was a princess who lived in a isolated castle in a far away land with the Queen and the Queen's evil mother. The princess couldn't stand to be in the castle anymore, so she escaped. She ran and ran and the Queen's evil mother found her and threw her to lions!

An angel saved the princess and they moved as far as they could but the Evil Queen Mother still found them. She ordered the sea to swallow the princess, and though it was sad, it did and she was no more.

The Evil Queen Mother went back to her lands, and lived comfortably until one day where everything went wrong. She yelled for the cook, who had not made her dish tasty, and salt was added to it.

Salt comes from the sea, and the sea was very, very angry at the Evil Queen Mother for slaughtering the young and innocent princess. Her soul, along with the Spirit of The Sea wanted vengeance. The salt burrowed deep into the food and burst into flame just as she went to eat.

"Say an apology and admit to what you did." said the cook, who had been told of the sea's wrath.

The evil woman refused and ordered the cook executed at dawn! No one wanted to cross the queen so they all gathered to watch the poor cook's end. Just as the executioner slipped the rope around her neck the sky opened and water poured onto the earth, sweeping the cook away before drying up.

Everyone knew that the sea was angry, but the Queen and the Queen mother ignored it until the day all the water in the kingdom ran red. The castle began to flood with the red water, but they still refused to admit anything was wrong

"Say an apology and admit to what you did." said the mute scullery maid, right before she was swept away to safety by the sea. There was no admission or apology and the waters grew very cold. The evil queen mother used her magic, and whisked them away to another land.

The land of ice began to attack them. The water froze into spears, and the spears flew at the women. They went to a land of trees, and all of the leaves fell to the ground and were covered by water, and that made a bog that tried to suck the woman in. Finally, she went to a desert, away from water and the sea and anything that would know what she had done.

The Queen, once grand, stood hungry and weak with her evil mother. "Say an apology and admit to what you did." she said, the spirit now in her. The Queen Mother looked at the Earth, which rumbled and watched as bones rose from the dry sand. The sea had covered that part of the Earth once, and now the bones of the dead creatures were rising to the surface. Some broke and formed into the young princess.

She watched as the bones trapped the Queen and the Queen mother, before they could use magic to escape.

"I'm sorry, my child." cried the Queen "She wanted to kill you, and I was weak, and let her. Please forgive me."

The bones fell from around her, and the Queen ran to hug her daughter. The Queen Mother refused, but the bones fell away from her too. Seconds later, the magic of the sea returned them to the kingdom which seemed to be happy and peaceful. There was a grand feast where all of the food was good, and everyone smiled.

The Queen Mother smiled, and when she returned to her chambers, she planned to kill the princess once more.

She didn't know that the sea knew what lay in her heart. Slowly, all of the water inside of her started to dry up, and didn't stop until she was a dry husk.

The sea still shows it's anger. When ships sink and storms flood the lands, it's because someone made it mad. You can't hide from it, or get away because it's everywhere.

Is your mouth dry?"

The little boy looked at his sister, and shook his head no. "Were there monsters?"

"Yes. Big water monsters with claws and fangs and who liked stupid little brothers. And it looked like me! RAWR!!"

With that, Lynn started chasing the little boy around the house.
