Today's lesson in Grammar For Smut Writers is hear vs. here.
"To hear" is a verb. It describes the sensation of perceiving sound through the ear, the act of listening. It does not mean "in this particular location".Incorrect: Cordelia said to Lilah, "I want you hear on Holland Manners' desk, right now."
Correct: "I could hear you jerking off from my bedroom on the farm, Lex," Clark said. "I have superpowers, you know."
Conversely, "here" denotes location, namely the present location of the speaker.Incorrect: Dana and Natalie could here Dan and Casey shagging in their office.
Correct: "I want you right here, right now, Casey," Dan said. "I don't care if our office is an inappropriate place for this!"
Any questions?
In other, unrelated news, does anyone need a Gmail invite? I have ten, and everyone I can think of either has a Gmail account or doesn't want one. Leave an email address for me to send the invite to, and I'll give 'em to the first ten people who want 'em.
I woke up about ten miles out on the wrong side of the bed. Man. I've got a serious case of the grumps this morning. *grump*
