I Really Do Live

Woot, I'm going to double post after a long absence! (g) As usual, I've just been too tired to post. A lot of times, I've just been too tired to even turn on my computer, seriously. Most of this has been due to work - summer reading was the usual short-handed insanity, and it hasn't slacked off that much now that school's back in session. I've ( Read more... )

A trial version of Office 2007 came installed on all three of the computers that we got for Christmas. I hated the Ribbon so much that I didn't even bother looking for a pirated serial number, and instead put OO.o on Mom's and my computers (my sister doesn't really need it, but Mom and I do for looking at work files at home). I like the standard UI, and the fact that you don't have to be online to access stuff like help files. Granted, for most stuff, I'll still use WordPerfect 8 - yeah, it is old, so I need OO.o for newer Office files, but Reveal Codes in WP is the greatest feature even in an office program, and if I had the money I would be willing to pay for the most recent version (I bought 8 with an employee discount as a gift for my mom, back when I was supporting it, and I actually still have 5.1 DOS through 7 as well from those days).

Seriously - I know that we needed to upgrade from Office 2000 at work because it's EOL now, and Main had already gone to 2007, but considering that at best when we're open our Internet feels like dialup, having to go online to get templates, clip art, and even help files sucks. I wish we had just gone with OO.o for ease in transition for staff and patrons - plus it is free, and we need to save all the money we can.

Plus, don't get me started on the mess with trying to use a Publisher file for mailing labels created in 2000... (sighs)
