I know this was a coupla weeks ago, but I wanted to document happy times.
During my vacation last Labor Day in NYC I:
had a blast with John and his friends in NYC. It's interesting to meet people who are of a different line of work. Among them were a talent agent, vh1 assistant producer, and John's sister who works for ABC. ABC put her up in super-posh, $6G/mon corporate housing in mid-town during the duration of her project here in Manhattan. I've never seen a place that decked out before.
Barely did any tourist stuff but checked out various bars and restaurants in LES, mid-town, and Williamsburg area. Lived the nocturnal life for 5 days straight while I was over there - Drinks and laughs till 5am and then dragged ass when waking at noon.
-Saw Afrika Bambatta spin at the MOMA in Queens for an event called PS1-sooo tight.
-Saw a show called De La Guarda on Union Square which was definitely worth the $20 rush tickets. The entire interactive performance inside the building is above you and people swing around and swoop down to grab some people to swing up in the air. The combination of the drums, light mist/rain falling on you, and the shrieking artists spawned this wild, crazy, and almost carnal yet refreshing vibe. At the end, the show turns into a party. My first thought after the show was thinking I'd definitely want to take other people to see it.
-Spent some time with my aunt and uncle, who were really nice to take the train from Port Washington into the city to see me. We had lunch at a nice italian restaurant called Arte cafe on 67th and Broadway. Afterwards, we checked out the Museum of Natural History together.
My first memories of NYC were of them taking me to FAO Schwartz. As an 11yr old, I was convinced it was the best place in the world. Esp. after being told it was the biggest toy store in the world by my uncle. I was a bit disappointed when I saw one in SF later that year.
-I was impressed at myself for my effecient tour of Manhattan via subway the last couple of hours before my flight back to SF. Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, shopping @ SOHO, NYU, lunch @ Chinatown, Columbia...all within four hours!
I think all that partying weighed down on me. I eventually developed a cocktail flu I think. Coughing throughout my flight back. I rarely get shit-faced but this was NYC + friend I haven't seen in a while.
Good Times.
