I recall the first time I had seen Death Cab live. It was an enjoyable show at the Fillmore, primarily mellow, laid back folks..overall a great time.
The Death Cab show Fri night at Berkely Greek Theatre was even better - more of a rock out performance...unquestionably exceeded my expectations. The performance had evolved, and perhaps partly better due to the higher budget of the stage setup. A noticable difference was the crowd of younger teenie bopper girls, which made me feel a bit old and out of place. Like perhaps my taste in music is identical to that of a 15yr old chick with braces.
The lead singer seemed to have changed a bit as well. 2 yrs ago, he was fairly preppy (haha..i originally mistyped as 'fairly pretty' :p) , glasses, short hair..caucasion software engineer-lookin'. Now, his longer hair gives more of a grungier rock star attitude along with his constant spitting on stage. I suppose talent lets you get away with behavior that would otherwise be considered disgusting. I wish I had been able to see them on their second night. They really are such a great band live. Listening to their songs on winamp is simply not as satisfying as their live shows.
The Greek Theatre has become my favorite venue for live shows. The acoustics of the pavillion is so nice while maintaining a wide open area. Kudos to whoever managed the lighting on stage because I felt as if I was watching Ben Gibbard play keyboard on a separate secluded planet.
I really needed this night out to decompress from the stresses in past months. Really thankful that I scored cheap tickets from Craigslist and the fact that Abhishek agreed to drive out to Berkeley for this.
