They stood around in a loose oval shape as the minister finished the sermon. His voice had warbled on for minutes about the releasing of evil and the forgiveness of God. Predictable a light rain started as he finished. He closed his book and stood there waiting on the guests to depart. One by one they peeled off from the main group to return to the cars. As a man broke from the crowd another stepped from his car.
“Mr. Bell, my name is Russell Wayne. I am from the legal offices of Kent, Wayne, and Jordan. We wanted to offer our deepest sympathy for your loss. We would like to extend our services to you and your family.” He held out a card to the man.
“I told them to keep an eye on her. Demons. She was always at war with her demons since that day.”
“Excuse me sir? I have read over the case information and you have the beginnings of a very solid neglect case against the hospital.”
“She was so good toward the end. We should have known it was an act. Her demon craves, craved, her demon craved blood. It doesn’t matter whose.” He stumbled into the lawyer. “We should have seen it coming.”
The lawyer helped that man, “We would like to help you get the people back who caused her death.”
“No, no, my little Rachael committed the suicide to rid herself of her demons. Leave her be or see her demon.”
