Mythical May

Prompt: Orbit
Untitled

Love is a two-way street.

That’s what the old women say.

Take the pain because euphoria will follow. Heartache will be redeemed. The forlorn will find her One True Love. There is balance to love, eventually.

Hollywood says so.

Don’t believe it.

You will be reckless with my love, just as others have been.

Heartbreak means that your heart breaks, right? Each time, fissures form, tiny rifts at first, but they don’t heal. Eventually the heart will shatter. (The laws of physics predict that.)

I am hollow. The others took everything. I have no heart, but I retain the wisdom gained from my experience.

No, not wisdom.

When you come along, I know I could caress you forever within my soul and subjugate my needs for yours. And you would do the same, wouldn’t you? Please, will you?

I toy with you, baiting you until you follow my lead. I seduce you, loving your body so thoroughly that soon, your eyes blaze whenever you see me.

Mother, save me from myself. I know not what I’ve become.

I stroke your mind with my words. Captivating you. Capturing you. Snaring you.

It was so easy.

You care…too much.

“I love you.”

“I would die for you.”

“Anything you want is yours.”

Your affection glances off my armor.

Your eyes grow sunken and haunted. I have gutted you, just as they did to me.

Our lives have intersected. My orbit has pierced yours. I’ve left you different than you were before.
