I've made some serious progress since I announced that I was
working on a Doctor Who scarf last week. :D
Here's the first attempt. The holey one I showed before. I think I probably made just every noob mistake possible, lol.
Splitting the yarn creates additional stitches. I know that has happened several times. Dropped stitches causes the holes and reduces stitches. That happened like 3 times.
In the very beginning I counted the stitches in every row but it was always the right number so I stopped because it was very boring and as you can see it ballooned. At some point I noticed that it seemed a whole lot wider than it's started out as and counted 66 stitches when it should have been 45. D: I couldn't figure out how the hell that happened or what to do about it so I did some searching on the internet and the answer was not what I wanted to hear.
Unravel/rip it to the point where the screw up happened.
; n ;
The thought of unraveling terrified me so I didn't and just eliminated a stitch every row. It wasn't until I reached the point where I needed to switch yarn when I realized how I suddenly gained so many stitches in the first place. I forgot to treat each doubled stitch as one. Oops. -_-;;
And with that revelation I decided to start all over again at 2:30 am on the 24th and approximately 26 hours later I had this...
As you can see attempt #2 looks soooo much better. :D
At one point I freaked out when around 5 or so stitches fell off the needle and I couldn't figure out how they go so I asked my mom to fix it for me. She made the new stitches going the opposite way they were going and when I told her that she then proceeded to rip them out which made me spaz! D8
And so I learned how to rip when I mess up. I had to do it a few more times since but thankfully not many.
My finger tip started to hurt after poking it hundreds of times with the needle so I put a band-aid to protect my finger. I think there are things made specifically for this but the band-aid worked fine. Here's how it looked after three days of knitting.
I spent most of Christmas day knitting....
Here it is before I went to bed. Almost two feet long! :D
The day after Christmas, the third day, I played Donkey Kong Country Returns and knitted during the times my brother was playing. We didn't play two player mode becuase can't get the second Wiimote to synch with my Wii and becuase we wanted to play it more like how the original games were.
Eee! :D
And here's how it looked this morning...
I'm taking a break today to deal with emails and photos,etc. and hopefully scan some things while watching the Doctor Who Season 5 DVDs that arrived today from Netflix.
PROGRESS SO FAR:
I might actually get this done before my birthday! :D
