Merry Belated Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! :D
I hope you all had a wonderful and joyous holiday weekend! My mom's bf was in an exceptionally good mood (because of the knitting?) so it's been the best Chirstmas I've had in a few years. As you may have guessed I spent the majority of my weekend knitting and not on the computer. XD (Update on scarf progress coming real soon.) It was only last night that I uploaded tons of new photos to sort through so instead of making tons of separate posts I'll combine all the smaller ones into this giant Christmas Post!
On my way home from work I walk by a bunch of houses decorated for Christmas. This particular house literally has an ARMY of Santas, nutcrackers, snowmen, etc. Could they possibly fit any more? It looks a lot more tacky in person. They do this for Halloween too.
From the 18th to the 23rd I was baking. A lot. That will get a separate post of its own soon. So much fail... D':
On the 23rd I got a few Layton things
zillabean helped me get ahold of. Thank you! <3
I got a few prints of the super adorable
Layton: Vitruvian Professor by
5494 on dA. I'm curently trying to flatten them out before putting the bigger one up on my wall. I need to get a poster protector thingy too so it won't get scratched up and dirty. I also got this neat little Unwound Future Rubick's Cube. It's not the European promo one. It's.... different.
Close-ups of each side:
On Christmas Eve my mom and I did some cooking so we wouldn't have to do any on Christmas Day. XD
Normally we have both turkey and ham but this time we only did ham since we recently had the last of Thanksgiving turkey leftovers. We froze it and used it in soup the weekend before. My mom made the ham.
I don't know if this has a proper name but my mom just calls this "stuffing" since this is what we normally use to stuff our turkey. Since we didn't have turkey we just had the stuffing alone and it's sooooo good. I love it! <3 I need to have my mom teach me how to make it the next time she does. I know it contains ground beef, rice, celery, raisins, cranberries and tosted almonds and walnuts. Oh so good.
And I made the mashed potatoes. :3 (And salad which I didn't bother to take a picture of.)
I love this a lot too. Expecially when mixed together with the stuffing above. Mmmmmm.... <3
Ingredients
potatoes
heavy whipping cream
butter
salt
pepper
thyme
marjoram
fresh parsley
*I don't know the specific quanity of each ingredient becuase it depends on the amount of potatoes. We usually make huge batches using 10 pound bags of potatoes.
1. Boil potatoes until soft. Drain pot. You can either leave on or remove the skin. I prefer to leave it on.
2. Add some butter and heavy cream and use a masher to mash the potatoes. Add more cream and/or butter to make it the right consistancy.
*My mom prefers to boil the cream and butter first. I let the heat from the potatoes to melt the butter and warm the cream.
3. Chop up fresh parsley.
4. Add salt, pepper, thyme, marjoram, and the chopped parsley according to taste.
And on Christmas Day...
Presents! 8D
Here's what I got! Finally some gloves!
Thank you so much everyone! <3 <3
SUPER GENT and his trusty dolphin...uh... PUZ! Off to solve the world's hardest puzzles! XD
The day after Christmas it snowed. ALL DAY! My brother went and bought Doney Kong Country Returns just before it started.
My mom had a radio program to broadcast that day so she and my brother went to the radio station together and on the way back it took around 3 hours for them to return. Normally it takes less than an hour. D:
The next day my mom found out the lady who had a show after her ended up stuck at the station overnight. The next day no public transportation was running so she stayed stuck for a while...
My mom's bf's son came by in the morning with a snow plow/blower thing and cleaned the parking area in front of the house and the sidewalk area leading to the laundry room and backyard.
Piles of snow!
More snow.
View of the backyard from the gate.
More backyard.
The water wasn't frozen anymore like the day before. How can so many ducks be hanging out in the cold cold water? Brrrrr!
My brother and I spent the day warm inside playing Donkey Kong Country Returns while I knitted when it wasn't my turn to play. :) I think we're halfway through the game so far.
And I was supposed to go to work today but thankfully they called and told me I didn't have to go since the public transportation that I use had very limited service. Tomorrow I'm have to go though.... ;_;
