In Oregon, if the snow sticks, yep, they do.

We're not used to this and ODOT doesn't have an entire army of ploughs to keep the roads clear, just enough for the freeways and main roads.

Also, they mentioned that a shipment of de-icer has been delayed in arriving.
We don't salt here. Not green enough.

Honestly, I thought they were made illegal to use because they rip chunks out of asphalt.

They do! That's why they should only be used in extreme situations to gain traction in mountain passes such as the Cascades, Sierra Nevadas or Rockies. I would imagine they're useless everywhere in the country south and east of Colorado!

Well, what else are you going to use when the roads are covered with snow? Pixies? 'Cause you don't get a lot of traction out of those guys.
