Heroes: 2x01 Four Months Later

Sep 28, 2007 22:11

I'm still catching up with the 2938457 reviews and other parts of my flist and I feel that everything important has already been said.

So I'll just state two unpopular opinions, my favorite crazy theories and provide visual evidence for something we wondered about.

Speculation basing on and spoilers for the episode )

I think people would have found West less creepy if his power wasn't being able to fly.

*pipes up unasked*

I only find him annoying, not creepy...

Oh, I know. I just wanted to give the different perspective, because, lo, the boy was not popular, and I'd really like to think that was because he was kinda bratty, not because the fandom has suddenly become squeamish in regards to incestuous vibes. Have they never heard of the old idea that people tend to fall in love with versions of our parents?

I think a lot of people really believe that TV writers are dumb by definition, or at the very least that the Heroes writers are.

Like I said to 12 from what I saw it was mostly his stalkerish tendencies that put people off him. Especially the last scene with him floating outside her window.
Considering that a creepy, stalkerish serial killer is one of the most popular characters of this show I'm very amused that people are so creeped out by West. One thing I like about him is that he could go either way. He is ambiguous enough to be just a horny teenager with bad pick up lines or a slightly crazy bad boy who has been assigned to check up on Claire.

Hee! Indeed, that is odd. At least here I am definitely innocent because, boy, do I hate Sylar.

And now I'm wondering if we aren't meant to be vaguely creeped out by him, since it would make sense if the Company send someone after Claire, and who would be better than that boy who tries to befriend her? (This of course makes me hope it's actually the Jackie clone or the clumsy girl - Martha?)

Hah! That would indeed be awesome. And both girls played a significant role in Claire almost outing herself...

hy are the writers so unimaginative? They have to start repeating powers already?" Heh.

Those are the kinds of fans that I really, really want to direct to the X-Men whose powers are elongated, prehensile skin, or the three millionth variation on psychic abilities (no! a psychic knife is different, I swear!). Variety? Not always the spice of life. Sometimes it is the spice of disgusting.

I got the impression that it was the last scene with him spying on Claire that sealed the deal for many fans - not so much his power. But I agree with you that it makes perfect sense that his ability to fly like Claire's father and uncle and the obvious resemblance to Peter would make Claire open up and trust him a lot faster. It's incredibly smart. Heh, I didn't catch the song in the car, oh Kring!
As long as he doesn't drop her from increasing heights to reenact Peter's fall and help her test the limits of her power, I'm all for the subtext and even rooting for them. Of course, knowing Claire's track record with guys there must be something wrong with him...

I hadn't realized how much Peter and Nathan had changed from the pilot. Those pictures are totally distracting, BTW.

;) But as much as I lust for like newly shorn buff Peter, I also miss dreamy, wide-eyed, emo-banged slender Peter a little seeing this picture.

It makes me feel all wistful and sad, because I know we're never, ever going to get that Peter back.

So true. And I'm honestly praying that Peter's amnesia is not a result of the Haitian messing with him because that would mean he permanently lost his identity and connection to all S1 characters. From a story telling perspective it wouldn't make much sense to spend so much time in developing his character and establishing the numerous connections with all the other characters just to erase everything. At least I hope so.

I was already wistful for that Peter by Parasite... man, that was pathetic of me. :/

He was just so stupid. I mean, what kind of guy throws himself off a building because might save the world? Oh, Peter.
