Arthur liked magic. Ever since Merlin had been revealed to him as a sorcerer, Arthur had come to accept magic as a daily occurrence.
All it had taken for Merlin to reveal his magic was a witch and a particularly large serpent (Arthur was beginning to detest reptiles). After been struck down by the beast, Arthur had watched in shock and amazement as Merlin had destroyed it with a few words and a large fireball, and then continued to fight off the witch using the same method.
'Oh.' He'd said, and watching the flame in Merlin's palm go out, it had dawned on him.

When he had regained his footing, and was staring at Merlin in awe, he wasn't sure what he'd been preparing himself for, but he hadn't been prepared for the fear in Merlin's eyes when the boy had sobbed, 'I'm sorry sire. I know you'll have to turn me in to your father.'
Arthur had collected his sword, knocked to the ground during the battle, and helmet. He had turned to look at his friend and said, 'Don't be such an idiot Merlin,' and then started in the direction of Camelot. Those had been the only words he'd uttered on the subject.

Once they were in Camelot, Merlin had either realized Arthur wasn't going to turn him in, or just decided it didn't matter anymore, and had taken to using magic to do his duties. Arthur had walked in on him reading in his chair, while Arthur's boots and sword were simultaneously being polished in mid air. Merlin had been so shocked when Arthur knocked on the door, the sword and boots in question had dropped to the floor.
'Sire!' Merlin had exclaimed in a squeak-Arthur had held in his snort of laughter. 'I-I didn't-it's just that-'
'You should use your magic more often Merlin,' he'd chuckled quietly. 'Seems you'd get things done a lot quicker.'

One thing he had come to realize was that he quite liked watching Merlin perform his duties with magic. Sometimes when Merlin was cleaning his room, Arthur would sit in his chair, watching Merlin at work. Merlin would never face him while he performed magic, and although Arthur found this rather odd, he didn't comment on it. He was actually strangely considerate, deciding that perhaps it was something Merlin just did. He was odd like that. And really, Arthur just liked watching Merlin. Merlin's magic. He liked watching Merlin's magic. The magic was interesting to watch.
Morgana had walked in on a scene like this one day, and had regarded Arthur with a raised eyebrow.
'This is a strange way to spend your time Arthur.'
Arthur had stuck his nose up at her and explained to her that he was the prince and he could spend his time however he liked and that she had no right to barge into his room anyway.
Morgana had just laughed; a twinkle in her eye.

Then one night while he was dressing Arthur for bed and his face was in full view, Merlin used magic.
At first, Arthur almost didn't notice. He was so used to Merlin using magic around him that the odd object moving of its own accord didn't even cause him to blink. So he didn't notice as his armor which he had previously been wearing floated over to the table as Merlin took off his shoes. What he did notice, was that Merlin's eyes flashed gold as it did so.
'Stop.'
Merlin looked up in confusion for a moment, and then seemed to realize what had happened.
'I didn't let you see before because-well because when some of the children in Ealdor saw my eyes, they thought it was really stupid and I really didn't need to have you on my back about it too and-'
'Merlin.'
Merlin paused. 'Sire?'
'Do they do that...' Arthur slowly took a deep breath. 'Do they do that every time you use magic?'
Merlin looked down at the floor. 'Yes sire.'
There was a long pause before Arthur finally spoke. 'Move my shoes over to the table too would you?'
Merlin nodded his head glumly and, without looking up, waved his hand and the boots floated into the air, hovering over to the table.
'Let me see Merlin.'
The sorcerer looked up slowly, but avoided eye contact, and Arthur moved to hold Merlin's chin with his hand, watching as his eyes flashed gold.
'Merlin...' Arthur murmured, staring at Merlin, who was still looking away.
'I'm...sorry sire?' Merlin offered apologetically, and finally looked up at Arthur.
All it took was that little bit of eye contact, and then Merlin was pinned to the floor, with Arthur's lips attacking his.
'Don't be,' Arthur muttered as he moved to worship the skin on Merlin's neck. 'Don't be.'

Later, Arthur wrapped a protective arm around Merlin as the boy slept, pulling their bodies close. He was sore, tired and completely content. He looked at the boy in his arms in awe.
'Oh.' He said, and as he heard Merlin sigh in his sleep, it dawned on him.
Arthur loved magic.
