New year & Holidays

Dec 30, 2008 16:51

I have been pretty busy lately-- previously I was on a "vacation" of sorts that meant away time from the computer so I didn't update. I will get to those Holiday Requests in time, like I mentioned, it may be late and I don't know how good they will be, but I want to start finishing pictures. That can be like a new resolution-- as the year comes ( Read more... )

Yes, but instead of with the controller, a multi-touch screen version of it... dunno how good it will be compared to the actual IIDX, but... hey, make play work, that's awesome.

Sounds like DJ Max Technika. I was at Sunnyvale Golfland this evening and they're having a location test of it.

Yes, I mentioned it in my entry. I am considering visiting it.

Oh hahaha I think it's because I don't pay attention to things when beatmania IIDX is around (like the DJ Max Technika machine which I did not play)

But if you guys are, like, creating an entirely new music game, you might consider using the open-source StepMania base to get a leg up. (BUT YOU PROBABLY KNEW THIS?)

That's okay. Ever since leaving Santa Cruz I've been missing playing it. All the stuff I learned from you about music games still stick around, but I'm not willing to shell out money for a beatmania controller and game...

Oh, I plan to get Left4Dead during this steam sale, just have to go around to buying it, I was going to get a 4 pack with a friend to share costs, since now it's like 33 per game on the 4 pack or something...

And yeah, we have the source code for StepMania, I'm not sure if we will use it or not. Thanks for the reminder, though.

moondabor introduced me to DJ MAX Technika not too long ago but I haven't actually touched a machine yet, I knew there was one in Sunnyvale. Do you know when it leaves? It's just on a beta time frame or something...?

Yeah, I guess you could call it a beta timeframe. Location test, meaning it's probably the only one in the US right now. According to chickensnack it's probably there for another week or so.

Darn, I better visit it quick.

Are you free on New Years or anything
I also get off work a little earlier today too

Also, I think the location test (totally the words I was looking for, thanks) started in Southern California or something, then it moved up here maybe.

Technika so far seems to still be a single-touch game, I wonder if we can really make a multi-touch like it.

And for IIDX, we want a copy of the disk and keyboard layout that's similar to it, so it'll be different from Technika's horizontal split screen if we are successful in making a version of it.

I will actually be staying in Fremont tonight! If you want to head to SVGL tomorrow (providing it's open), I'd totally be down.

Technika's multi-touch. There are beats where you have to hit two places at once, or keep one held down while you hit some others.

Have you played Tap Tap Revolution? It's an iPhone game with a 3-column layout similar to beatmania. Not powerful enough to include keysounds, but it was a pretty popular app for a time.

Is Technika max two fingers? Like the iPhone?

Yeah, let me call up Liz later today to see what she thinks. Also, we wanted to head to ThriftTown 'cause they're having a sale on the 1st, everything in the store is 50% off, so if you're interested in going to that, we can go. They have some interesting stuff, more than just clothes, so I like to go. If not, Liz and I can hit the store and then call you up to hang out.

Nah, I haven't played it. I don't have an iPhone, but I can ask Minh/moondabor when I see him on the 2nd, he's visiting up here for a short time.

Technika's not max two fingers, and neither is the iPhone. My friend kay0ss was playing crazy songs that required hitting three places with different tempos, etc. etc.

And certainly! ThriftTown sounds good.

Also the party I'm going to tonight is a house party hosted by this nice dude Gary who's kind of got a come-one, come-all attitude. Lots of cool people, LOTS of video games. :o You could totally stop by if you were interested.

I'll show you TTR, too. I've got it downloaded.

Wow, really? I thought it was like 2 fingers max, but it's cool it's more than that.

Anyone else I know there? I was gonna hang out with Liz today and tomorrow, I could bring her along if she's interested. But LOTS of video games is very attractive for me :U

Cool, we'll see. If Liz won't make it, I might still consider on going depending on how tired I am. I'm still not used to waking up in the morning even after 3 months of doing it...

Yeah, the iPhone accepts at least five inputs at once.

Hmm, I'd be surprised if you didn't know at least one or two people there, TBH. I'm coming with my friends James (captaincanada) and Paolo (radpaolo), John (kay0ss) will be there... one of the DJs there (outside turntablin') is Mel B, another friend of ours. He spun at Fanime, actually. And Liz is totally invited as well if she's interested.

I'm expecting tomorrow morning to be pretty slow, so it's no big either way. I'm not doing anything else for the day.

So sounds like a video game party vs a drink drunk party. Cool. I'll call / leave a comment on what Liz's reply is... I think I am getting off work around 3~4PM.

I still have Paolo's number from ages ago. Funny how we met up before I saw him at one of your parties.

Well, there's drinks and the like. But with food to go along. I'm pretty sure you guys'll enjoy it.

Annnd I'm off work at 5 (although I might cut out a bit earlier). At this point I'm not exactly sure about things like driving arrangements, what's happening earlier in the evening in terms of dinner, etc. Will keep you updated! As long as I'm at work, though, I'm out of a reception area. So email/chat is the way to reach me.
