Knives x Vash is manga canon. Deal.

Yes, this may seem wanky. I freely admit it, but this is my LJ, and I have the right to wank here. If you don't like what I have to say, you can simply refuse to read it. THIS IS ALSO NOT DIRECTED TO ANY OF THE RESPONDENTS TO MY LATEST FIC POST. Please don't think I'm yelling at anyone from there.

For a long while, I've said that I wish Knives x Vash was canon, so I could have something to throw back at fans who wish to exclude those of us who write that pairing, even canonically and not as OOC fluffy love, from the general Trigun yaoi fandom or who, worse yet, post flames to fics featuring the pairing because "twincest is teh icky and how dare you write that!!111" or "because it's the general opinion that twincest blows goats."

Having been an animeverse fan for so long, I'm finally buying the manga now that I have money (yay runover from student aid ^_^), and I've noticed it when reading volume two: One-sided Knives x Vash IS manga canon. I wish I had the panels to scan in, but Knives first of all has no concept of body space or privacy, at all. Then, he chooses to meet Vash nude, and leers at him the way a drunk leers at a scantily-dressed woman. To make Vash activate the angel arm, Knives practically sits on Vash with his hand over Vash's face. That's also only in the very first volume that we see Knives. . . there's much more ahead.

For as much as you may personally find twincest repugnant, there's definitely canonical subtext arguing for it. I'm not advocating it as the ONLY true pairing (I happen to love Knives x Legato and Wolfwood = Vash among other pairings), I'm only saying that it needs to be considered as part of Vash's background, part of the life that leads up to what he is. I also don't care if you think "it blows goats," or "it's icky," it's canon. Meaning those of us who write it (or use it as a background in our writing of Vash in fics not involving the pairing) are not being fanbrats or breaking some rule somewhere. You don't like twincest? Direct your flames to Nightow's e-mail, not mine, thank you.

And, if you're so revolted that you think it's absolutely impossible and completely anticanonical, it may be a good idea to get out of the fandom now, before the ending of the manga, just in case it ends in a way you might not expect. Quietly bowing out now is a better idea, if you're this squicked by the idea, rather than howling in rage, leaving the fandom in a massive fireworks display slash trainwreck of DORAMA, starting wank rivaling that of the Harry Potter Book 7 ship wars, and generally losing every bit of cool you have if the manga makes it even more explicit canon at or near the end.
