Anyone who steals something off his plate is very likely to get toast thrown at them, but nothing worse than that. He has plenty.

Jadis is still sitting at her table, which is still covered with books, although they are now mostly shut and stacked. The paper has been shuffled into one nearly neat pile. Jadis is going over the top sheet, which has written on it a list, maybe, some calculations, perhaps, and a few lines of. . . something.
