TONIGHT'S SPECIALS
Half off simple orders. There's also a Steve behind the bar, probably looking a little out of place. Since his door is stuck, there's not much he can do about getting back home, and any chance to help out is one he's probably going to take. Even when written on a napkin. He's not entirely sure what goes into professional ( Read more... )

"...?"

Peggy? Was not expecting to see him here.

At all.

"Rogers, why are you here?"

It takes him about three seconds to recognize and label that voice. Peggy. Startled blue eyes lift from his project, locking directly on her in the way a deer eyes sudden headlights.

"Agent Carter."

Give him a moment.

"I'm bartending."

"Yes, I can see that." To cover the pause, she takes a seat at the bar.

"I wasn't expecting to see....Well, the only other person I've seen here that I know is Howard, uh, Mr Stark. I suppose it wasn't entirely out of the realms of possibility that someone else would turn up."

"Mister Stark is here?" He's not entirely sure how to react to that on top of Peggy-- Agent Carter's arrival. Steve clears his throat shortly after gaining back a modicum of dignity, and rests a hand on the counter near her seat.

"Is there something I can get for you?"

"He is. I haven't recognized anyone else.:

Beat.

"I would ask for tea, but you Yanks..." The corner of her mouth dimples. "Any cider back there?

"We Yanks like our coffee, with cream and sugar." It's a gentle tease, since he isn't quite brave enough to try anything bolder just yet.

"Think we have apple cider."

The dimple deepens, then, "Apple cider would be wonderful."

"Then you get apple cider." His answering smile brightens a little, and Steve makes short work of pouring out a steaming cup of apple cider and setting out down carefully in front of Peggy.

"And voila."

"Mm, thank you."

For a moment, she doesn't even drink; she just wraps her fingers around the cup, luxuriates in the scent of it.

"I could get very, very used to this place."

"It sure is enlightening." Steve's mind works incredibly fast now, but even he can't quite take in how amazing this place really is, and has decided to just let things happen as they will.

It's a lot easier than constant worry.

"All these people from the future....all the knowledge."

She was a student, before the war. Sometimes it shows.

Steve ducks his head. "I'm not sure I want to know about the future. Seems like you're tempting fate."

It always shows. Peggy is the smartest woman he knows, beside his mother, god rest her soul.

"Fate," she says, taking a sip from her cider. "I suppose, but working with the Reserve, sometimes I just think that...the enemy is so far ahead. Maybe we owe to the people we are fighting for to try and find every possible advantage."

She's lost friends, has Peggy Carter. Her country is being bombed.

It's not exactly an idle curiosity, despite how much she also treasures science for science's sake.

He's not adverse to using every resource available to win this war, especially since he's one of them. However, using a magic bar with hidden secrets seems almost like cheating. Steve's going to keep quiet on that, though, because he already feels a little foolish.

"Maybe we do."

"Although, that assumes that we can alter what for so many is the past."

She almost shrugs, dismisses the issue, takes a sip of cider.

The thing is, though, is that she never dismisses things like this.

"So how are things over in the States?"

"I've never felt anything was impossible if you wanted it badly enough."

He leans against the counter, watching her casually.

"War bonds sales are rising pretty high. People seem to enjoy the shows."
