Julie Finster - PS238 - First Entrance

The front door opens and a voice can be heard calling, "Tyler?" before a little girl flies in...yes flies.

She's dressed in a white and blue costume, complete with cape and mask, and pulls up short when she sees she's somehow found the convention center's bar. Kids aren't supposed to be in bars but what if Tyler is in here? But he's a kid and so ( Read more... )

In the midst of her internal debate, Julie may find herself being brightly greeted by an older girl seated at the bar, enjoying a chocolate milkshake.

"Hi! New around here?"

Well maybe they do let kids in here!

"I guess. I mean I've never been to the convention center before so yeah. Have you seen a blond boy with a green cape and a silver helmet with little wings? I think he's lost."

Dani shakes her head. "Nope, I haven't; sorry. Though I think you might be a little off-course yourself."

And that definitely gives Julie pause.

"What do you mean?"

"This place isn't any convention center." Well, not a conventional one, anyway.

Which would make it...an unconventional convention center?

"This is Milliways. The Bar at the End of the Universe."

"What do you mean?" she asks again though she's wondering what Zodon has done this time. Or maybe it was Tom.

"Don't worry; it's not anything bad. This place has a habit of sneaking up on people when they don't mean to come here, especially when it's your first time."

She pauses and rubs at her neck.

"Hey, do you mind coming down here so we don't have to keep talking like this? I think I'm getting a crick. Or I can come up there, whichever."

"Oh sorry," she replies bashfully and lands nearby. "I forget I'm doing that sometimes. What do you mean 'sneaking up'? Is this a robot bar or something?"

The older girl shakes her head. "It's interdimensional, and I think a bit magic too. It's located at the end of the universe, but the Door can open to just about any universe that exists."

"Oh no!" the little girl replies. "We're not supposed to leave the building! I'm in trouble now!"

Leaning forward, Dani puts a comforting arm on the little girl's shoulder. "Don't worry; it's okay," she reassures her. "The really nice thing about this place is that when you walk through the door - or fly through - to come here, time in your world stops. And when you go back it starts right back up again, as if you'd never left."

She decides not to mention anything about being Bound to the younger girl just yet. No need to panic her even more.

The girl relaxes a bit and offers a smile. Then she says, "Really? That's kind fo cool. Who set it up?" Cause that is such a neat idea and she's surprised she's never heard of it before.

Of course she hasn't been in any bars before so for all she knows all bars are like this.

Dani shrugs. "Dunno. Sallie Reynolds and Mike are the head barmen but they don't really own the place. I've heard people talk about a 'Landlord', but as far as I know no one's ever seen him. I know I haven't."

"So why do they let kids in? I thought adults were the only ones allowed in bars."

Dani pauses to think on this for a bit.

"I think," she finally says, slowly "that it's because Milliways is more than just a bar. It's almost like a- a safe place, or a refuge. Anyone from any place can come here if the Door opens to their world. And there are rules to keep all of the patrons safe: no violence in the bar, no outside business; that sort of thing.

It's almost it's own little world, I think."

"Weird," Julie replies with a nose wrinkle. "I'm Julie by the way." Manners always catchup eventually.
