Charlotte Charles, age nine (and very much alive), has never been to Milliways.

Until right about now- when the door crashes open to make way for a terrifying dinosaur scattering cars and buildings in every direction under her feet, a giant behemoth that would make any right-minded patron quake in their very seats ( Read more... )

For a moment, Ned is pretty sure he's just imagining a young Chuck by the door in that oh-so-familiar costume. It's something he is prone to doing when he's having a relaxing afternoon-slash-evening at the Bar where time is fluid and loopy and follows no rules.

And then he remembers: the Bar is a place where time is fluid and loopy and follows no rules.

That gets him to straighten up immediately.

(And choke on his coffee.)

Young Chuck Charles, to what could be considered Ned's advantage, remains blissfully ignorant of the piemaker's coffee-choking.

For now.

She shuffles awkwardly in her boots (covered in the three-toed dinosaur feet, of course), clutching both car and cardboard, and decides to step up to the bar to investigate.

Her eyes focus in on the ridiculously bright yellow brassiere hanging overhead - and go wide.

"Oh."

The first thing he does is give the general bar-space a quick glance-over to be sure that the other Chuck - his Chuck, from his timeline - isn't currently around.

Because that could get very awkward, very fast.

(Well. Actually, the first thing Ned really does is clean the coffee that dribbles down his chin, and scoot himself out of the booth he'd been sitting behind.)

Then having determined that young Chuck is quite alone, and feeling automatically responsible for her well-being, he makes his way over.

It's as though he's stepped back in time. He remembers every single stitch on those dinosaur feet, and the smell of drying water-soluble paint from the cardboard buildings.

At present, younger Chuck does appear to be the only Charles in the bar - though, as stated earlier, it could get complicated if that quickly changes.

She's torn between taking in every single detail that filters in front of her line of vision (and there are a lot of those) and wondering why her best friend is nowhere to be seen.

He was right behind her, and she turns to look in that direction, a stream of emotions flickering over smaller, button-nosed features.

"Ned?"
