It's one of Those Days.

...which is probably not a good way of describing it, given how many variations of Those Days there are. Nevertheless, for Trudy, it's one of Those Days where she wonders what the everlasting hell she was doing signing herself up for a posting that involved staying in the same place for six years(well, six years if she ( Read more... )

There's a clattering of metal on wood as Ellen makes her way over towards the couches. It's not her boots, this time. She's being followed by a highly stylized ersatz horse made all of metal, except for the plastic mane and tail.

She's also looking kind of blankly at the book, because Spanish didn't get to go into the Vault.

Blank looks are a-okay!

If only because Trudy is looking blankly at the horse.

"...what the hell is that, Miss Park?" She asks, tone bemused.

"His name is Jangles," Ellen says. "He's a children's toy from before the War. I put him together from parts I found in the ruins of the factory so I'd have something that could carry my pack and any equipment I found."

Dinah was just passing by refreshing the cut flowers on the coffee table by the fire. But she stops when she's caught in the corss fire of a staring into space that doesn't quite include her.

"Good book?"

It's universal code for 'you're not reading that book, so what're you thinking about?'

Trudy blinks, and then half-smiles.

"It is. I'm just...not payin' attention to it."

"Happens to me all the time," Dinah consoles, giving up on her flower arranging job to flop onto the couch. "Now I just wait for the movie."

Trudy laughs at that, the sound warm and snickery and sorta witchy.

"Pretty sure they ain't gonna make a movie 'bout ancient Peruvian history." Beat. "And if they did, I'd spend half the time wanting to throw things at the screen for gettin' 'em wrong."

Carl has also been pretty restless the last few days. He keeps eyeing the door every now and again, looking to make certain that it's still there.

(The idea of being bound right now is horrible.)

Which is why he spent most of the day outside. He took the time to swim a bit in the inlet, while it was still warm enough to tan.

Or in his case, had he not put on sunscreen, burn.

He wanders up behind her and places his hands on her shoulders (gentle, careful, hey it's just me) as he leans down to press his lips against her temple.

She knows the way he walks - careful, balanced, just enough noise not to spook her - and so at the kiss, she just smiles and tilts her head back to look at him.

"Hey, you."

"Hey yourself."

He smiles and gently squeezes her shoulders, before he nods his head at the space beside her.

"Feel like sharing that couch?"

"Only because I like you," she informs him, solemnly swinging her feet off.
