Evil Chicken was so busy inspecting the forest soil, looking for a place to plant his evil catnip, that he didn't notice the impromptu theater being set up. He didn't notice the demon bunnies had stopped "visiting" him.

That is until he heard the dog chasing after a bunny.

Then he saw the dog. And what it looked like.

"Oh gods, what is it what is it what is it what is it what is it what is it?"

Then he saw the vidscreens. Then the boy. The green plastic looking boy.

The chicken had enough sense left in him to teleport off the ground and into one of the trees. Not enough to teleport far far away from the things that are inspiring his existential horror.

No, he had to watch.

The vidscreens are displaying Epic Battles of some kind of other (well, except for Screen 3, which is mostly displaying Epic Fail). The plastic-looking boy is greeting guests and eating plastic-looking cake.

The dog... has padded around the back of the chicken's tree and has just begun to growl.

VOICE IN HIS HEAD WTF

Frisket starts to bark and stand up against the tree. Being scared off is something that happens to other dogs.

Being scared off is something that happens to other chickens.

Well, no, that's a lie, this dog managed to make him flee into a tree.

That wasn't fear, that's just good tactics!

Suuuuuuure, whatever.

I'll prove it by teleporting nearer to the party and taunting the dog!

Wait, that won't prove anyth...

Too late. Evil Chicken is standing halfway between the dog and the food that has been set out for the party.

"Come get me!"

Where'd it go where'd it go where'd it... there.

Frisket bounds toward the weird little intruder...

"Frisket! C'mon, you're supposed to be... whoa, that's a big chicken."

And the big chicken is running toward the food table as fast as his legs can carry him.

Sure, he can teleport away, but that's no fun, at least as long as the dog isn't in the middle of a pounce.

Hey, trying to stay alive while not killing your opponent is fun! Who would of thought of that?

No, wait, cats pounce, dogs ...

And with that the chicken disappeared and reappeared behind the green boy to contemplate what it is dogs do when they are about to catch their prey. Ok, it seems he has completely forgotten his earlier panic. Besides, the boy seems to know the dog. Frisket?

"cat:pounce::dog:?" Mindspeak is an effective way of communicating odd concepts.

Blink. What was that? First the chicken vanishes-no, wait, there it is, Frisket's growling at it again-then there's a not-quite-voice putting analogies in his head.

"Uh, dogs can pounce, too. Is that you?" he enquires of the chicken.

"Is what me?"

Evil Chicken is used to having his not-quite-voice recognized, but duh, its not like he has been terrorizing Milliways for very long.

"Oh, right, yeah, that's me. Is that dog yours?"

"Yeah. He's s'posed to be keeping the bunnies away from the party. C'mon, boy! Leave the chicken alone, it's a patron."

Frisket humphs.

"Bunnies? Oh right, the bunnies! No wonder I haven't been bothered by them today. I was looking for good soil to plant some herbs in," the chicken hopped from one foot to the other in order to get the vial hanging from his neck moving, "when your dog... noticed me."

Part of the reason he's dancing around is to get some of the scent of the herbs in his vial to waft up to the boy's nose. Might as well check out if this boy is a god.

Not only is there no effect, he can't even smell them. Frisket might, but it takes stronger magic than that to register with Enzo.

"There's a garden plot, you know. And a greenhouse."

"Garden plot?"

He didn't know about the garden plot. There are some things you miss when your preferred mode of travel is teleportation. You don't get to stop to smell the roses.

"Yeah, I visited the greenhouse, but there is something seriously wrong with the soil near the entrance. There is a tree stump planted by the entrance in that soil, but it looks like lightning hit it or something. I don't know what happened there, but it just feels like a bad place to plant anything."

Enzo's face falls.

"Mary's tree."

That was an odd reaction...

"Did you... know the tree?"

There were a few sentient trees in Evil Chicken's world, but most were malevolent. Very few weren't and were even friendly if you were in good relations with the gnomes. It might be that this tree was sentient, after all, Milliway's has managed to surprise him a couple of times.

"No, but... Mary runs the greenhouse, and she said she had a tree that was supposed to protect her world from this evil lady named Blodwen Rowlands, but Blodwen killed it. That must've been it."

Not sentient, as far as he knows, just magic.
