Charlie doesn't really have a reaction when he gets asked to bartend. He doesn't overly mind, but at the same time there's a not small part of him that wants to ignore the request and go to sleep, for however long it takes for his Teja to come back ( Read more... )

Ahh yes, the Goth's lover! Will be fun chatting to him.

"I guess a Soul Taker would be fitting," Asar-Suti says, walking up to the bar and smiling cheerfully.

They have an entirely different idea of what constitutes fun, just now. Charlie almost refuses, but he really can't get away with that, now that's he's back here.

"Would it be?" He'd be half-surprised to find out the librarian hasn't,/i> taken anyone's soul.

"Yep," Asar-Suti says. "I once went to great lengths to buy a king's wiling soul to wedge open the connection between two worlds, and turn myself into a god. Most complicated piece of magic I ever did while I was still human!"

He looks at Charlie, and shakes his head. "Are you all right? Is that Goth giving you trouble?"

"Fascinating." Charlie answers somewhat absently, reaching for a shot glass. "So you weren't a god to begin with." That answers a few questions.

"And no, he's not. Teja's not giving me anything."

After some time standing at the entry way and not being attacked, Usagi comes to the conclusion that he either must head back into the rain or see if this is in fact a tavern. If it is a tavern, there is a good chance it will serve saki or tea (even Oni love saki and tea!) and Usagi could do with something to warm him.

And so he approaches the Obake at the bar and says, "I would like some tea please." Normally he wouldn't be so formal in a tavern but this is a Obake tavern and it is wisest to be cautious.

"Do you have a particular kind you'd like?" Charlie can do tea. He doesn't normally drink it himself, but whatever.

"I only have four mon, so perhaps something humble. A green tea? I apologize if my coin shames this place."

He has to blink at the formal language. The fact that it's a rabbit simply hasn't sunk in yet. "It's alright, you can order what you'd like. Are you new?"

"Could I just get some water?"
So says the slightly damp newbie approaching the bar. Water seems like a good idea, what with the unexpected new place and all.

"Of course." Charlie slides a glass of water towards him, slightly concerned at the dampness. "Why are you wet?"

"Can't help it. Kind of a long story."
Short version: Soviet-made humidifiers are a bad idea.

"Would you like a towel, to dry off?"

Kate approached him. "Another drafting by Bar?" she smiled, and then eyed the specials name with growing concern as her smile dropped.

"....Ok what happened?"

"Same as usual. She asked if I would stay back here while she slept." Charlie knows that isn't what she meant.

But it's the answer she's going to get, regardless.

She folded her arms in front of her and gave him a pointed look.

"You know what I meant."

She gets a shirt sigh, and a final tok as he sets a shot glass down firmly on the bar top. "Yes, I do. I gave you your answer. would you like a drink?"

"Tending bar today, I see." Croup attempts an open smile. It doesn't work as well as he seems to think. "And a fittingly dark theme for your mood."

"Two Red Rums, please?"

Charlie actually manages a wry half-smile at the request, and the attempt. At least he tried. "Sure, gentlemen. I would have thought you'd enjoy the irony."

He pulls up the glasses to make their two drinks, only hesitating a little as he slides them over. "Red Rum. More complicated than it would sound."
