The problem with the target range is that it is outside. Ellen has resigned herself to walking under the open sky back home. It's not that bad if she doesn't look up. She's told herself that several times and managed to avoid panic attacks that way.

Out back, however, is not home and does not even look like it. It's cold out there. And it's got snow. The white stuff sticks to her legs in ways that the old pictures never really made clear, and it gets into her boots (everybody in the Vault wears boots, they're the only shoes she has) and melts and then it's just nasty. And it makes weird noises and it's slippery, too.

It... may take Ellen a while to get out to the target range with her pistol. At least she's being distracted from the fact that she's without walls or ceiling?
