There's a risk involved, of course; there's always a risk. Still, when faced with something like this, there's only one possible response for a man like Nathan Stark to make.

He strolls forward to the door, glances around the room, and steps casually across the threshold into the bar.

"I presume you can still hear me on this side of the line, SARAH?"

Stark's completely ignoring the presence of both Zoe and Jack, at least for the moment.

"Yes, Doctor Stark. My external audio-pickup range does not seem to be hampered in Milliways."

To Jack and Zoe: "I am sorry I never told you."

"...this can't be good," was the brilliant thing Jack thought to say.

"This is awesome," Zoe says, stepping out of SARAH's front door and looking around the bar.

Stark spares a moment from his study of the room to cast an assessing glance toward Zoe.

"It is, isn't it?"

At least some people are interested.

SARAH's still concerned about Jack.

"People are not mean here, Sheriff Carter. To humans."

Jack raises a finger. "...humans?" he says.

"We're at the end of the universe, Dad," Zoe says. "Of course there are more intelligent life forms than humans."

"Perhaps we should have offered your daughter the sheriff's position instead," Stark says dryly. "She appears to be quicker on the uptake in certain situations."

To SARAH, he adds,

"Give us the brief report. What do we most need to know?"

[smart_house]

"The bar itself is magical, and keeps a running tab if you are incapable of payment at any given time. There is a main door that leads individual patrons back to their respective universes. If you cannot see that door, one is considered to be Bound to the bar.

"Though I seem to be the doorway between Eureka and Milliways, at this time."

More for Jack's comfort than for Zoe's, "The bar will refuse alcohol or illegal substances to those underage in their own time and place."

"Well, that's a relief," Jack says, finally stepping out. "The alcohol thing, not the 'Stark has to come to my house every time he wants to go to the end of the universe' thing."

Zoe rolls her eyes and wonders if there is any way around that rule. Of course, being at the end of the universe will be cool even without alcohol.

"So we can't come here unless you do?" she asks, making sure she understands SARAH.

[smart_house]

"As far as I understand, yes."

"Unless I am forced to stop from coming to Milliways."

"I see no reason why you should."

Stark meets Jack's eyes for a brief instant as he turns back to look at SARAH.

"In fact, I'm sure I could arrange some sort of associate researcher status for you with Global Dynamics, with this your first project. You'd report directly to me, of course."

[smart_house]

"Of course."

It's the first time Doctor Stark has looked at that steel door with any interest in a good long while, it seems like.

"I look forward to it."

[jackcarter]

"Okay, more importantly, what sort of jurisdiction are we in?" Jack asks.
