One of the more interesting side effects of the Bar's subspace compression field, so far as Bumblebee is concerned, is the way it shunts most of his mass off to someplace else entirely while he's there. He doesn't weigh a whole lot more than a large, heavyset human despite being made of metal. While this would cramp his style during a fight, if a ( Read more... )

He may be shocked to find somebody already up there! A fuzzy blue person with a cup of coffee and a copy of Tolkien's The Two Towers borrowed from the library.

"...Well hello there!"

Bumblebee waves, as it only takes one hand to provide the extra balancing point when he's got his feet positioned to give him maximum grip on either side of the rafter. "Good morning!" he answers. "Am I interrupting? I didn't scan for anything but structural integrity, so I didn't realize you were here."

Slipping a bit of paper between the pages for a bookmark, Kurt closes the saga of the Ring and sets it aside.

"Nein, not at all. Do you need a hand up or do you prefer to hang around?"

He's out of angst-mode (hobbits will do that to a guy) and smiles genially at the robot-type person. Seems to be of the same variety as the larger one he'd spoken to outside.

"Oh, no, I'm fine," says Bumblebee. "But thank you. My designation's Bumblebee, by the way. Good to meet you."

Bumblebee's scanners indicate a pretty strong possibility of 'human', but the physiology he's seeing isn't really all that consistent with most of the humans he knows, so for the moment he's betting on some kind of human/alien hybrid and keeping any direct species references out of his speech.

You'd be amazed, really, at the number of people Spoon knows who tend to do that. Enough that he's breaking the monkey habit of not looking up on a regular basis.

Usually Spoon's girls are on the other side of the rafters. Or hanging by their feet. (Mostly that's just Christine.)

Bumblebee will get there eventually. Right now he's still working on sussing out the feel of the rafter; he's not used to walking on organic matter. But he spots the ostensible human below and waves, as he doesn't need both hands for this.

"Morning." Spoon calls out, lifting his teacup in salute.

That human has a lot of metal on his head. Normally you don't see that many beads on anybody with that color skin. It's interesting.

Bee's just gonna leeeeeean out for a better look and hang onto the rafter with one hand before pointing with the other. "Those look unusual. Do all the humans near you wear their hair like that?"

Regional customs, he's found, are much stronger on Earth than they ever were on Cybertron.

A girl in a steel-gray unitard also happens to be sitting in the rafters a few yards away from where Bumblebee is clambering up.

She's staring, a bit.

Once Bumblebee is up and fully balanced, he turns to scan the area for more detailed information than just 'structural integrity'. Thus- ooh, human! He waves cheerfully from where he's crouched, and Peter Gabriel's voice chirps out, "Hi there!"

Yeah, Kit is from 1934. Peter Gabriel isn't due to be born for another 16 years yet.

"Uh... hi." A tentative wave back. "What are you supposed to be?"

"nice view up here, isn't it?" says the mech, who makes no move to come closer- some people are just afraid of robots. "I've never seen it at this scale before." Pause. "Oh- I'm an Autobot. An autonomous robotic lifeform from the planet Cybertron."

They'll get to names in a bit.
