One of the more interesting side effects of the Bar's subspace compression field, so far as Bumblebee is concerned, is the way it shunts most of his mass off to someplace else entirely while he's there. He doesn't weigh a whole lot more than a large, heavyset human despite being made of metal. While this would cramp his style during a fight, if a ( Read more... )

You'd be amazed, really, at the number of people Spoon knows who tend to do that. Enough that he's breaking the monkey habit of not looking up on a regular basis.

Usually Spoon's girls are on the other side of the rafters. Or hanging by their feet. (Mostly that's just Christine.)

Bumblebee will get there eventually. Right now he's still working on sussing out the feel of the rafter; he's not used to walking on organic matter. But he spots the ostensible human below and waves, as he doesn't need both hands for this.

"Morning." Spoon calls out, lifting his teacup in salute.

That human has a lot of metal on his head. Normally you don't see that many beads on anybody with that color skin. It's interesting.

Bee's just gonna leeeeeean out for a better look and hang onto the rafter with one hand before pointing with the other. "Those look unusual. Do all the humans near you wear their hair like that?"

Regional customs, he's found, are much stronger on Earth than they ever were on Cybertron.

"One - I'm not human. Two - not all of me species wears them, just me. Three - all of me culture wears them." Spoon says cheerfully, "Only other person around here you're likely to meet with the same hair-pattern is usually found hanging upside down invisible from the rafters."

"Oh, all right," says Bumblebee, who knows better than nearly any of the Bar's organics that just because someone looks like something, doesn't mean that's all they are. "Invisible in which spectra? I have several different scanning capabilities."

Spoon blinks for a moment, then lets loose with a long series of clicks, growls, half-barks, and gurgling noises that sound a little bit like he's choking on his own tongue.

"Dunno what they translate to. Never bothered to learn them in English."

"I don't think I can translate any of those," says the robot a bit regretfully. "Excuse me a moment-"

It's a fair drop from the rafters to the floor, but Cybertronian joints are built to take a lot of impact, and with this little mass to cushion there's hardly any touchdown difficulty at all.

"That's better."

"Yautja." Spoon explains, "Me culture. The rest of us are taller than me and have mandibles. I'm a freak."

Bumblebee thinks about this. The image he's getting is of a human with mandibles and braids. This... doesn't work.

Slagging Milliways and its lack of access to the Internet!

"What are they like? The other yautja, I mean." That seems a safe enough question to start with.

Spoon flips out his wallet and flips past other pictures to the one of Christine; "Now you've got to understand that she's a dainty and delicate specimen of yautja femalehood."

Bumblebee peers at the picture thoughtfully. For a moment, he's reminded of Arcee, from his unit back home. Arcee had been another of the early volunteers to search for the Allspark, but their paths had diverged so soon...

"Yes, I can see that."

For all that he knows that other people think he's joking, Spoon is perfectly sincere when he describes Christine that way. She's rangy, not cute, and has the yautja equivalent of a runner's body. During his brief time as a yautja male in form instead of just spirit Spoon felt the need for lots and lots of cold showers. Nothing physical lingers, but Spoon? Remembers, and some of that leaks out when he talks about her.

"She's me hunt-sister. Best sister a man could ask for."

During his first year on Earth, Bumblebee occasionally amused himself by evaluating different vehicles he passed for suitability as alt forms for this or that Autobot of his acquaintance. Arcee would've gone motorcycle- one of the low-slung models, swift and sleep. He's sure of it. So he has an idea, really.

"What is it the two of you hunt?" he asks curiously.

"Very dangerous things." Spoon answers, firmly. Then he flips back to show off the pictures of his trophies.

Bumblebee makes a long, low whistling noise at the xenomorph skull, but one of the other photographs gets a curious look. "Aren't those extinct?" he asks.
