Two weeks ago, Mac celebrated her twentieth birthday and finished up what (she hoped would be) the last set of finals she'd ever take at Hearst.

A week after that, she got dragged along on the biannual rite of torture camping trip with her family.

Yesterday was Christmas. Alas, Santa did not bring her an iPhone.

And today, when the mail service resumed, Mac had four letters from four different colleges waiting for her.

She's sitting at a table with them now, flipping one of the envelopes back and forth between her fingers as she gnaws the edge of her bottom lip. It's stupid to be this anxious about opening a freakin' piece of mail, but that thought isn't doing much to spur her into action.
