After some time, the Rani steps out of her TARDIS.

She's thoroughly disgusted, irritated through and through with all the experiments she would have to start over, all the supplies she would have to obtain again, and all the work she would have to do on the various greenhouses and ecosystems and labs and rooms to get them back to the well-oiled 'machine' they once were before her ship was taken by ( Read more... )

Ryan arches an eyebrow at the irritated-smelling woman. Hm. Not human either, not that he'll hold that against her.

And...doesn't she look vaguely familiar?

She was in earlier...

Also, she's been going in and out of a certain tree outside for the last few days.

She feels the eyes on her and raises an eyebrow in return.

Yes?

That must be it. Either that, or her scent floating around is fooling him.

He meets her eyes, and gives the woman a slight nod in greeting.

She looks him over once... and something about him has her stopping before she dismisses him. Something she could see or sense had her pausing.

She nods in reply.

He has nothing to say, really. He just likes to keep an eye on those people who scent as irritated as that.

Sometimes they do something stupid.

But certain instincts won't let him look away first, or even blink until she has. His expression doesn't change, though. He just keeps looking at her.

For her, it's just pure competitiveness.

The eyebrow raise shifts just so to be curious now.

Oh, lucky him. The last time the other person didn't look away, it went...well, not as bad as it could have.

Ryan starts to smile, now, and it looks friendly enough, even amused.

But those who know them know any show of teeth isn't the best sign.

Unlike most, her default set of social traits which she uses to evaluate things is not human. She's far more used to dealing with non-humans (prefers it, actually).

That doesn't mean she looks away.

She does, however, tilt her chin up and to the right just a little.

She's showing her throat, even if just a little. He acknowledges that by blinking and dipping his chin down and to the left. The smile changes to a closed-lipped one.

"See something interesting?" He can scent she does, though not in that way.

He figures either way, she'll probably drop the gaze.

"At the moment, I'm undecided," she admits. Her voice is an alto, her tone stiff and almost military in it's clipped precision, and accented as such that someone from Earth could think she's British.

Not that she is.

She doesn't drop the gaze.

Ryan tilts his head at her. "I believe I'm of like mind," he states, watching her. His tone is much like her own, though probably even more military seeing as he, you know, is.

Oh, and British, too.

"Oh?" she asks curiously.

"And what about me do you find so interesting?"

captainryan October 17 2007, 21:47:21 UTC
Ryan smiles. There are some teeth, though not as many as before.

"Oh no, you misunderstood. I'm undecided. As far as I can tell, you're no more unique than any other patron here." Which does mean she's unique in her own special way.

He totally isn't trying to insult her. Much.

"I misunderstood nothing. Your interest is plain. And your opinion is, quite frankly, of absolutely no consequence."

Head tilt. Brow raise. "Then why did you ask for it?" Why, that almost sounds mocking, doesn't it?

"It amused me," she says. Definitely mocking.
