Giles was distractedly reading his textbooks as he often did. So it took him a moment to notice someone arriving in the bar.

There did seem something oddly familiar about her.

"Good evening."

Of course there is! How could he forget--

"Oh, Uncle Rupert!" she says, practically skipping over as she gives him a lovely smile. "I haven't seen you for ages. I didn't know you were coming. Though the house does seem to have a new addition on it."

How could he indeed? Though it had been some time since he's seen his favorite niece.

He smiled warmly back at her, "Why of course, my dear. I could have sworn I had mentioned it the last time we spoke? And does it, how nice. How have you been?"

"Very well," she tells him, blushing faintly. "I'm still working on my education, of course. The process never ends. And I've... I've found someone, if I may say, though it's a bit early to bring him home to Mother and Father. And you?

"Other than in this place. I'm assuming this is the fabled Milliways?"

"Oh excellent, I wish you would speak to some of my charges again about the importance of education. Perhaps when you're on holiday again. Oh? And I suppose I will have the chance to meet this gentlemen as well?" Of course, he probably already knows him, and heartbeats or lack thereof would be a factor.

Giles shrugged, "Oh, I'm fine now that you helped us with that last demon, and the Slayers training have improved a great deal."

He added, "It is indeed. First drink's free remember, and if you wish to practice fighting, there's an outdoor area through that door. That goes for any of our enemies that show up, and there's upstairs rooms for staying or... yes."

And he took off his glasses to polish them as he awkwardly trailed off.

"I do plenty of practice at home, thank you," she says with a cheeky smile. "Every moment not spent on books is spent at the practice grounds. I wouldn't be top of my class without that."

Her eyes, a blue almost violet, shine brightly.

Her eyes, another factor of her unique heritage after all. Halfbreeds were so rare these days. Especially elven/vampire/werewolf or descendant of numerous Slayers. One that helped them time and again.

Giles nodded in agreement, "Of course, but feel free to use the grounds here. I find the fluidity and flexibility of time here to be very beneficial for it. And I must show you the libraries here. Very fascinating. Shall I order us up some tea?"

"Oh please do," she insists, sitting down. She smiles winningly at him.

"Libraries? That's almost as good as practice grounds!"

She loves to train and study almost as much as she loves--

Oh, no telling!

Giles waved over a waitrat to order some tea, and he can find out later about potential suitors.

Afterwards he remarked, "Especially these libraries, all the books across the multiverse are available. I added some journals myself, though none of your own secrets of course. No one needs to know about your... special background."

He straightened his glasses, and leaned back in his seat as he looked at her, "How are your classes?" Probably going for double, triple or quadruple majors and seven- ten languages to boot.

She pats his arm.

"Thank you, Uncle Rupert."

He always was so understanding. She laughs at the question, though.

"I'm on my tenth language, though having some trouble with this Nahautl nonsense and my majors are progressing well."

"Anything for my favorite niece of course," He beamed at her again, looking rather paternal. Adopted her even more thoroughly than Buffy and Dawn.

"Nahautl? Hmmm..." He frowned at that in thought briefly. "Some deviation from the Babylonian dialects, I believe. I think I found a book recently which might help. Unless you already tried Lord Wensleydale's translations?"

She giggles.

"Of course not. It's the classic language of the Aztecs. Though if there's some connection between the Babylonian dialects and them, I should be quite interested to hear it."

"Of course.. It's been too long that I've studied the Aztec culture. Though, I do remember a fascinating article that discussed common links between many early dialects and languages. Seeking the roots of human languages."

"You mean the one I wrote while I was working on my doctorate?"

Chastised yet again, Giles fumbled in his speech, "Uh, yes. That one. Youngest to win an award for it too, weren't you?"
