Riku is outside the bar, in his civvies. He's holding a wooden practice sword, and using it to batter up what seems to be intended to be a person. The contraption is made of sticks and bounds together with what seems to be mummy-like red stripes of cloth.

It's holding together pretty well, but from the looks of it, he'll split it apart soon.

If Riku is paying attention, he just might notice the sound of running shoes hitting the floor and then:

"Riku!!"

Riku's being snappy to other people. But how could he manage to be snappy to her? It's more than a little impossible.

"Hi," he says, sounding tired instead. He smiles at her. "I haven't seen you in awhile."

A few more steps close the distance between and then Kairi's arms are around him - her face buried against his chest. She doesn't care about propriety, or who is watching. She hasn't seen him in weeks and weeks. All she cares about is that Riku is here again.

She's missed him terribly.

And he sounds exhausted. It makes her worry.

Without relinquishing her hold, she looks up at him - searching his face for... something. She's not exactly sure what.

"Hi."

He always sounds tired, lately. It's just a part of business as usual. He's probably had one good night's sleep in a year.

"How's life on the island?" he asks, pitching some cheer into his voice while he hugs back.

His tone is slightly strained when he asks the question - she can hear the undertone of it, it's lying there just beneath his attempt at sounding cheerful. She's not sure which of them he's trying to protect from it; himself or her?

It makes her throat constrict painfully. She squeezes his arm.

"It's the island." she says simply. "The weather is warm, the water is clear - I've been trying to go swimming every day when I can. When I come out of the water, I lie on the warm sand, close my eyes and listen to the water. Sometimes, I'm thinking about specific things... or people and sometimes I just let my mind drift."

She smiles at him.

"It helps me feel like I'm closer to you and Sora, when I can't see you."
