Excuse the confused-looking girl in uniform while she reads that sign, window bits included. "Uh... um... oh. What--?" and other assorted interjections apply. And yes, she took a look out that window at one point.

"Midsummer? the solstice? At least I know it's June, now."

"Twenty-second, to be precise," Agnes supplies helpfully. "I take it you're one of the ones who can't remember?"

That gets a nod as Sariel turns around. "It's the--oh. And yes... I can't remember anything, about who I am, or..." Pause. "I think I'm in the Navy. Only I'm not sure *which* Navy."

Agnes decides it must be a very strange Navy, if that's the uniform. "Well, that's a start, anyway. Does that pin on your chest mean anything to you?"

Blink. "That pin...? I hadn't noticed it until now." A second later, said pin is in her hand and being inspected. "... I'm not sure. Maybe it's some sort of rank insigni--" chirp. Finger, meet activation button. And everyone else feel free to be very grateful that Sariel's communicator doesn't work in Milliways. "Or not. Maybe it's a communication device?" Good guess.

"If you were from my world, you could always open it up and ask the imp inside who you were. But I don't think you are. Would you like some tea? It might help you relax and clear your mind."

Beat.

"Unclear it. I expect it's pretty clear at the moment."

"The... imp inside?" Beat. "I may not remember anything about myself, but I'm fairly sure we haven't got imps on my world." She'll realize that her lack of agitation at the idea of other, very different worlds means something later. Right now, she's chuckling - say true!

"That sounds nice, yes." If there's a chair open near Agnes, she's claimed it.

Agnes pours the woman some tea from a nearby pot.

"It's an herbal blend that might help you focus. What's the earliest thing that you do remember?"

Oh the irony - Sariel's the herbal tea lady when her memories are intact. She'll smile at this later. "Thank you... I could use the focus, I think." No kidding!

Sip. "The earliest--waking up in that chair, over there." The hand without the teacup in it gestures to the armchair with the short front leg. "Everything before that--" Shrug.

She takes notes on this, hoping to find some kind of common thread.

"Nothing nearby? Maybe a sprig of something, or a crystal, or anything like that?"

visible_sariel June 22 2007, 15:12:20 UTC
"A crystal? No... not that I know of." Sip of that tea again. "I *think* I'd just eaten something, but I'm not entirely sure. And this is a pub--" translation: who hasn't?

It's another second before she continues, somewhat uncertainly. "there is something... but I don't know if it means anything. Not about where I woke up. About me."

It's true, this is a pub, and most people eat, but she notes it down anyway.

"Anything you can tell me will help. It might be important."

"I don't know if this means anything about me, but--" here, she switches from English to what sounds like a dialect of French to those familiar with the standard. "I'm able to speak two languages." She then shifts back to English and translates. "I'm able to speak two languages. and I can switch between them without thinking. but I have no idea how, or why." this is apparently more puzzling than the whole multiple worlds thing. "Do you think...?" She trails off there - maybe Agnes has a clue?

"Maybe the other is your native language?" she ponders.

Headtilt. "That's a possibility, yes. But I don't... I don't *think* I have an accent." Beat. "Do I?"

It's worth noting that though the odd word is colored faintly with something not quite English, and the English itself is slightly more precise in places than it might otherwise be, there isn't an overly obvious accent to be heard. "Maybe I'm a translator? that would explain what I'm doing in the Navy."

"To me, everyone not from my world has an accent, so I'm not one to judge," Agnes admits with a shrug. "But I suppose it's possible. Although, a translator that only knows one other language wouldn't be much help, would they? Close your eyes and see if you can find a different one rattling around."
