[OOM: The Price of Success.]

The door opens and a man walks in, fiddling with his cellphone until he realizes that he's not quite where he thought he was.  At first glance he'll look famliar, but on second glance, people who know him may notice something...different.  It's not just the longer hair, neatly combed down; not just the slightly rounder ( Read more... )

A glance over at the door.

Jack Bauer.

He just walked in, and younger too than the one she has seen here. Very interesting. Nina couldn't help but stare slightly. She was sitting at the bar wearing a trim black dress suit with a martini in hand.

While Division might be vastly improved by the addition of a bar, somehow he doubts any of the suits he has to work with would approve that suggestion. So, if this isn't Division...where in the fuck is he?

Jack looks around, trying to get his bearings and failing; at least until he spots a familiar face.

"Nina!" he says, making a beeline for his second-in-command, feeling a little relieved. At least he's not alone here, and if he had to pick anyone from CTU to be here, it'd be her. Even if things were kind of...awkward between them recently. "God, am I glad to see you."

Nina blinked in surprise and put a hand to her chest. He had no idea. He couldn't have. This was just the sort of opportunity she was waiting for.

"Oh my god, Jack. You're here too!"

"Looks like it, wherever 'here' is. Do you have any idea where we are or how we got here?" he asks, glancing around the room, checking entrances and exits sizing up some of the patr--

...That's the moment when he realizes that not all the patrons look quite...human. He blinks searching his memory. He doesn't remember getting hit on the head or anything like that...

Nina glanced over to the chair beside her. This had to be a dream, an opportunity that she could never have dreamt of.

"Sit down, Jack. I'll buy you a drink as I explain. You'll need it."

He blinks, still looking around at the patrons. Those could always be costumes, that was a logical explanation. Only it didn't sound that logical when you put it all together; that somehow he'd stepped out of Division and into...a costume party at a bar/coffeehouse.

Yeah, somehow that doesn't sound any less weird than what he's seeing right now.

"Yeah, I think I do. Something strong," he says, taking a seat.

Nina smiled slightly. A glass of whiskey appeared on the bar in front of him. That had to be a surprise. The looks on his face alone were priceless.

"I know this is going to sound crazy, but you've stepped into a place called Milliways. It's a magical bar at the end of the universe and is populated by all kinds of crazy people from everywhere and every when."

Raising a hand in her defense, Nina continued.

"Now, I know that sound like the plot of one those movies that come on the sci-fi channel late at night, but trust me we're not in LA anymore."

Okay, now he has to wonder if it's Nina who's had a bonk on the head.

"Just where did that drink come from?" he asks, looking at it a little warily. "And yeah, right, Nina. Did Tony put you up to this?"

She hadn't seemed pissed about him breaking things off with her and going back to Teri...

Nina just shook her head and pointed towards the observation window. My, my wasn't this a trip down memory lane? Pointing towards the observation window, she grinned and commented.

"Have a look at that. Tony hasn't put me up to anything... well, except for that bit about the coffee."

"What do you mean, that bit about the co--"

He stops abruptly as he looks over at the Observation Window, rendered speechless at the sight.

"That's the end of the universe?" he asks, stunned.

Nina chuckled slightly, watching his reaction with a bemused smile.

"Or say they tell me. It's pretty damn impressive regardless, oddly beautiful too."

A slight frown, and a curious glance.

"...You don't remember the coffee thing? What day was it, Jack when you walked in?"

"February second," he says, nearly asking if she doesn't know what day it is, but then if this bar was at the end of the universe... Looking around, the way the place is decorated it looks a lot more like December than February. Either that or someone's being really lazy when it comes to taking down Christmas decorations.

A small sigh, and quick clarification.

"What year, Jack?"

"Uh, it's 2004, Nina," he says, wondering exactly what he's missing, here.

Nina stared into her martini, and commented mostly to herself. Too perfect. Simply too perfect.

"So... you don't know about Chappelle then."

A slightly worried look as if she had said too much.

"What do you mean? Did something happen to him?" he asks, watching her expression carefully. Not that any of them would be glad if Ryan died, but she seems a lot more regretful than she probably would be if he did.
