And Mary Anne's back on the couch. A few more bruises from her fight with Martin decided to make themselves known; that plus last night's meeting of the minds with Namo didn't exactly equal a terrific night's sleep.

She is again using her book to keep the light out of her eyes. Not like she hasn't read it before.

Joaquin, when he blinked up from his paperwork finally, noted the woman on the couch, and his brow creased slightly, padding over, "Pardon if I interrupt miss, but are you in need of a room?"

He hadn't yet run across anyone who actually slept in the bar, and he'd been told that there were rooms for let, he could only assume that she didn't have means to pay for one and would be more than happy to provide.

She lifts the book off her face and offers the man a smile.

"No, thank you, I have one. Just didn't sleep so well last night and thought I'd try relaxing down here for a bit."

"Ah." He dipped a slight bow then, smile quirking the corner of his mouth, "I didn't realize it was common practice to sleep in the bar itself."

She sits up, nodding deeply in return as she bites back a larger grin.

"Not exactly common practice but it's been known to happen."

His smile spread, slow and easy and charming, "Ah, perhaps I should begin to take my respites here then."

"The couches are rather comfortable."

She swings her feet to the floor, freeing up several cushions.

"If you don't mind the background noise, it's very nice."

He smiled once more as he settled himself at the opposite end, giving her more than enough space, he was just like that, polite and chivalrous to a fault, "I certainly don't mind background noise, there's often much of the same at the vineyard back home."

The chivalry does not go unappreciated.

"Really? Where are you from."

"Ah, California, the newly minted state. Near the Mission San Miguel Arcángel."

He tilted his head once more, "And you?"

"Ohio, once, when I was little. Now I live in Vietnam."

She smiles. "I've never visited California--passed through it once in my travels, but didn't get to stay. I hear it's beautiful."

He nodded at that, smile spreading once more, "It is, and the vineyard is especially nice. It's my mother's now, and she runs it well."

At which point she remembers she hasn't told him her name.

"Oh, jeeze, my mother would skin me for my manners."

She offers her hand. "Mary Anne Bell, pleased to meet you."

He smiled once more, taking her hand lightly, pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles, "Joaquin de la Vega. Enchanted."
