*A*C*T*I*O*N*
Chapter eight
Opening night was close now.
Something felt very drifferent when Osa greeted Asako this morning. Osa could feel it, but she could not manage to put her finger on what exactly it was. Asako had hugged her like every morning. They both arrived quite early every day, and the few people who arrived even before them were used to the scene by now; but they nevertheless gave her a funny look today. Or was she imagining things?
She took a glance at Asako. She behaved as always... But that did not surprise Osa much, since Asako tended to be quite oblivious to everything that wasn’t literally or practically shoved into her face. Well, Osa would have to think about whatever it could be later, since by now everybody had arrived and the rehearsal was about to begin.
Osa grabbed Asakos wrist, just as always, but maybe a bit too tight. She couldn’t help it. She saw Asako frown slightly. Automatically she spoke her text. Did Asako feel it as well? There was a flimsy tingling sensation right were their hands connected. Osa pulled her in, routine taking over her every action since all she noticed now was Asako’s face so close to hers and the touch of their skin. The tingling got stronger when she clenched Asako’s wrist even tighter in her fist. There was warmth spreading through her hand and up her arm. For a few moments she was left totally confused when Asako broke free of her grip. Then she remembered that they were still rehearsing. And everyone was looking at her again, this time for sure. Asako stood beside her, gently rubbing her wrist.
“What was that about, Masa-chan?” she complained.
“I’m sorry if I hurt you, I got carried away, I guess.” Osa excused herself. Everyone was leaving the room since it was lunch break.
“I was really afraid just now... it was like... you really becoming your role...”
Since everyone was out of earshot by now, Osa asked “Didn’t you feel something just now?”
“What do you mean?” Asako was irritated, what had she missed?
“So... you didn’t?” Osa turned around and left. While Asako was debating with herself if she should go after her, one of the young actresses came over.
“Asako-san, do you want to have lunch with me instead, today?”
“Uhm, okay...” Asako said and slowly turned around and followed Satsuki.
“Did you two have a fight earlier?” Satsuki asked Asako over her sandwich.
“No, we have had no fight. Why do you think so?” Asako shook her head.
“It looked like she was hurting you just now.” Satsuki stared at Asako’s wrist.
“Ah, no, that’s okay... she just got into her role too much...” Asako waved her hands “Never mind.”
“You’re sure?”
Asako nodded her head firmly. “Let’s get back in, it’s geting quite chilly out here.” she then requested.
Asako sat down on one of the benches. Osa was not back yet. Toni came over and sat down beside her.
“Are you alright, Asako-san?”
“Yeah, Toni-san, I’m fine. Thanks.” She did not even look at him.
“Is that so? Will you show me your wrist?” He asked.
“What for?” She held up her hand and put it back down right away “Alright?!”
“This is going to be a pretty bruise, you know.” Toni stated.
She really looked down at her arm for the first time. He was right. “Thank you for your concern, Moretti-san, but that’s none of your buisness.” Asako told him coldly.
“Maybe I should go and talk with her, if you want me to...?”
“If there were anything to talk about, I could manage that on my own. Now will you please drop the matter?”
Toni rose. “I will if you say so.”
Osa had reentered the room and saw Toni talking to Asako; she did not look too pleased. One of the older actresses, called Kazumi, strolled over to Osa and asked “Do you feel better now?” Osa nodded, but kept her gaze on Asako and Toni.
Kazumi followed her gaze and sighed “Oh, I sure wish he was so concerned about me...”
“What do you mean?” Osa looked at her bewildered.
Kazumi giggled “Well, it’s pretty obvious that he has a crush on her. Don’t you think so, too, Haruno-san?”
“Does he indeed?” Osa walked over to Asako to sit down beside her.
