I hero-worshipped our parish priest when I was a little girl. Good grief, I was practically in love with Father [name withheld]. I always said: "Father [name withheld] is the bestest, most kind-hearted parish priest in the whole world! Father [name withheld] is so nice and wonderful and he always teaches us good things from the Bible! [1]My favorite day is Saturday, because we have Bible lessons! Someday,I want to marry somebody like Father [name withheld]! But he can't be a Father like Father [name withheld]... because then, I can't marry him! [2]Or maybe, I will be a nun!
[1] Our Sunday school thing was on Saturdays.

I'm still a Catholic now, but I barely practice; back then I was a folded-hands, Sunday dress, Catechism-attending, communion-anticipating, Bible-reading, and priest-loving Catholic [and Catholic school, come to think of it] girl.
The truth is, part of my slow descent into apathy can be blamed upon Father [name withheld].
He broke my heart!
He left the parish. And while I was very sad about that, I wasn't heartbroken. What broke my heart was that after a few months [or was it a couple of years?], one day,some of the grown-ups were talking and they weren't watching their words around me ["Oh, she's a smart little girl, she can handle it!"], and one of the mentioned that according to the rumors Father [name withheld] had a--oh NOSE--girlfriend.
Me: What??!
Random Grown-Up: They say he has a girlfriend.
Me: No way, you're lying!
Random Grown-Up: It's probably true.
Me: You're lying, you're lying, you're lying!! *bawls*
Random Grown-Up: Er... okay, okay, it's not true.
Me: *continues bawling*
Oh WHY Father [name withheld], you were supposed to be pure and perfect, the epitome of virtue, my one and only childhood hero [well, after Achilles and Astro Boy and Shaider], and yet... NOOooOooOooOooOoooooOoo!!!
