“He Could Never Fall...”
The image was burned into her mind. That pale skin, the gleaming yellow eyes, brown hair lank and graying. His lightsaber had been entirely the wrong colour. It was blue before, but now it was red. Why red? Red meant blood and death, didn’t it? That’s what he had said in the crystal cave three years ago. Red meant blood and death, and blue meant serenity. He had chosen blue then.
Though it was clear what had happened, Samantha Carter still had a hard time wrapping her mind around it. The sneer on her former friend’s face, that night on Byss, told her everything she needed to know about what happened, but… Why?
Daniel would never willingly turn to the Dark Side. She knew it.
And yet it had happened.
Their frantic flight from the remnants of the planet had left little room for thought, and after that, the shock was too much for all of them. Revan had started to cry while Anakin held her, and Luke looked simply numb from shock. Sam had huddled in a corner with Jack and Teal’c, all three of them comforting each other in complete silence, mourning the loss of their friend, their brother-at-heart.
Now she could barely hear Luke’s words as she sat in General Hammond’s office with the rest of SG-1. Her mind lingered on Byss, and that sneer on Daniel’s face, directed at her.
Only at her.
