Title: Time for Speeches Later
Fandom: DC Universe
Characters/Pairing: Kon/Cassie, Superman
Rating: PG-13
Words: 1083
Summary: On the most important day of his life, there's only one person Kon wants to be with.
Author's Notes: This is future-fic, about three years after Kon's return. Kon and Cassie are recently married, Cassie is in college while Kon does the hero thing full time (calling himself "Valor" now), and they're expecting their first child. No real spoilers, although there is some fanon spec on Superman and New Krypton. Written for

And yes, this is sickeningly sweet.
The JLA meeting hall fell silent as Superman, clad in Kryptonian robes, ascended the stage. After pausing a minute to take in the hall for what could be the last time, he spoke.
"My fellow Leaguers, I never expected to be standing before you today, saying these words. The position I find myself in, torn between two worlds, is not easy. When my name was put into nomination in New Krypton's first democratic elections, the thought of winning couldn't have been further from my mind. I always saw myself as a Kansas farmboy trying to help people, not a leader of any kind. But now I find myself with the chance to not only help Kryptonian society move towards peace and equality for all citizens, but to improve relations between New Krypton and Earth. The tension between our worlds has never eased, and I may be the only man trusted equally on both. This was not an easy decision, but today I stand before you to resign my commission with the League, in order to assume the Presidency of New Krypton."
The meeting hall exploded with thunderous applause, saluting one of their most legendary members. Superman raised his hand, and they grew quiet again.
"I don't consider this an ending for the League, but a new beginning. I couldn't be prouder of the time I served with the League, and now it's time for the new generation to have their time at the table. The name I'm putting up for induction today is one of the most amazing young heroes of this age. He saved the universe at a time when most of us were still in our formative years. He paid the ultimate price for his heroism, came through the fire, and returned stronger than ever. I'm proud to call him an ally, but more than that, I'm proud to call him my son. With your approval, I'd like to introduce the next member of the Justice League of America...Valor!"
The audience turned to Conner's seat to see...an empty chair.
...
15 minutes earlier:
In the JLA lounge, Cassie hurriedly tried to fix up her hair and outfit before the meeting began. Kon, her mother, and the doctors had all wanted her to give up crime-fighting until the baby was born, but stopping a simple mugging on the way to the Hall of Justice seemed like something she could handle. It went off without a hitch, but she still couldn't show up to Kon's big day looking like she had just gotten out of a fight. She finished combing her hair, smoothed out the wrinkles in her outfit, and took a minute to look herself over in the mirror. Six months along, she had definitely gotten to the point where no baggy outfit could hide her pregnancy. This definitely wasn't something they had planned only a few months after their marriage (and during Sophomore year of a pretty demanding Archeology major), but after the crazy path they had taken to get here, she was happy to take life as it came.
There was a sudden breeze in the room as Cassie felt two strong, familiar arms wrapping themselves around her and cradling her stomach, and those sweet lips gently kissing her neck.
"Kon! You startled me! Shouldn't you be in the meeting hall already?"
"Eh." Kon grinned. "You know how boring those meetings are. There's 15 minutes before it starts, and I've got all kinds of ideas of what we can do with that time."
Cassie giggled as Kon nibbled on her ear, and pulled herself away to turn towards him. "Wow! I know we haven't had much time alone the last few days, with everything that's going on now. But here? In the JLA lounge? Aren't you worried that - "
Kon smirked, that trademark smirk that made Cassie fall for him in the first place. He waved his hand, and the door to the lounge closed, the lock clicking. "Nah, I'm thinking we'll have all the privacy we need."
"Clark would blow a gasket if he knew about this. I'm surprised you can think about anything else besides the induction vote."
"Eh, if it happens, it happens. I'd love to be in the JLA. I'd love it even more when both of us are in - which is going to happen as soon as you're back on active duty, if I've got anything to say about it - but at the end of the day, it's just a cool plaque and bragging rights. I'm going to be a dad. Soon, we're going to have a little Kryptonian/Demigod/Human to raise. And I want to spend every second I can with the woman who's making that possible. It's been almost a week since we've had the time to...be together, and I can't wait any longer."
Cassie grinned. "The last time you convinced me to have impromptu sex in inappropriate places, I wound up in maternity clothes."
"That's the great thing about having a smoking hot pregnant wife." Kon chuckled as he leaned in for a kiss. "All the reward, none of the risk."
Cassie giggled as she and Kon fell backwards onto the couch. "Just don't miss your introduction! I know I'm irresistable, but I'm not 'missing out on JLA induction' irresistable."
"That's up for debate." Kon kissed Cassie as he undid his shirt. "But for you, babe...I'll be faster than a speeding bullet."
There would be time for speeches and congratulations later. Right now, Kon was exactly where he wanted to be.
...
As the JLA and the guests looked around for their guest of honor, Kon and Cassie burst into the room. Everyone applauded, not noticing that both of them looked more than a little disheveled at the moment. Cassie blushed wildly as they walked up to the stage. She noticed Batman giving them a disapproving gaze as they passed by.
Kon smirked and whispered in Cassie's ear. "Well, he's a no vote. But the joke's on him - he sits on that couch."
Cassie tried to stifle a laugh. "I wonder if the JLA knows they're inducting an evil mastermind."
Kon kissed Cassie one more time as she made her way to her seat and he went up to the stage. The eyes of the heroic community were on him, but whether his future involved the JLA or not, he knew the two most important things in the world to him would be waiting when he came home.
