I have been trying all week to come up with an appropriate simile/metaphor/analogy to describe the wonder that is the water lilies on Lake Okeechobee. They just keep getting better and better! I think they have peaked but the next day their are even more of them, and in different colors! But my power of description has completely failed me. The closest I can come is that they look like cotton balls sitting on the surface of a mirror, or perhaps mini marshmallows on the top of a bowl of blue jello with green grapes. Both of those are HORRIBLE descriptions of the little balls of heavenly joy that burst out of the mud in stupendous splendor. Are they like spun sugar? Like a new day? They are not like sunshine, even the yellow ones are too light for that. Maybe they are like little clouds? Tiny puffs of foam? Seeing one might be like a drink when you are very thirsty. Seeing hundreds spreading across the marsh might be all your friends and family gathering together for a party. They are a little like a flock of white ibis picking its way across a lawn, spreading out to search for insects. Or I could say they are sequins on Lake O's prom dress, sparkling in the sun. At any rate, they are fantastic. Maybe I will say they are like everything beautiful you can imagine.
Or maybe I should say they are like water lilies blooming in the spring.
