Name: Hilary
Age: 21
Location: Central Florida
Soldiers name(First only): Ryan
Soldiers age: 28
Soldiers branch: Former Marine, current Army National Guard Reserves
How did you meet?: I met Ryan when he was home on Christmas block leave in 2004. I showed up to a kinda preppy friend's party because she promised free booze, but I was dreading being the only punk rocker there. This being in my hayday I was decked out in my plaid pants and doc martens and probably looking afright. But as I step onto the porch for a smoke what should I see but a Norse god in a Misfits shirt. THAT is my idea of a knight in shining armor and I fell in love with him that very night. We got married exactly one year later and I moved to Camp Pendleton.
How long have you been together (known each other)?: 3.5 years...feels like a lifetime.
What is your relationship with them?: Blissfully married.
What about your soldier makes your heart go pitter patter? (if you are together): Seriously...almost everything.
Is your soldier currently deployed?(Just a yes or no): No.
Is there anything you would like to share about your experience, things you've learned, or any questions you have?: Most recently we learned that if you start off a military couple, chances are you'll always be a military couple one way or another. It just becomes a part of you.
Pictures of you & your Military member?
Cutesy family portrait time!
Short story because it's baby Wendy's bathtime is....Ryan hated being in the MC because his unit put him on a shelf, wouldn't let him deploy even when he volunteered, wouldn't send him to any training, just made him sit in a SCIF and play solitaire for 5 years. Therefore when he got out he couldn't get a decent civillian job. So in January he re-enlisted in the NG. Now he's at AIT in Ft. Gordon to be a 25B IT Specialist. Hopefully this training will land him a real job. In January he's starting Reserve OCS. We figure if you can't beat em, join em. After that he'll probably activate for life, but we'll see. We fought this life for a long time because we hated the seperation and strife involved, but we've figured out that it's just what's meant for us. When he asked me what I thought about re-enlisting, I said: "It's not really fun to be a military wife, but it's a pain that I'm used to, and I honestly feel like I've never been anything else." I hope that makes sense to someone else.
I am in need of advice but right now is not the time since we have to get washed up and go see the DEERS people...it should only take all day.
