We haven't done anything for the Angels group, although I've heard from them. Your question is the same one I had...how do you get the info? From what I've heard too, it's hard to run that project because they tend not to get enough to give everyone something, so one person makes out like a bandit and it can make their comrades in arms feel bad, which is not good!

We didn't have any single contact information when we did the Bags o' Sunshine. One of our members had a contact with a vets hospital, so she coordinated making sure they got the bags. Everything was sent to her, she stuffed the bags, and had them picked up.

I was thinking something similar could be done for bags going overseas...the bags and things to put in the bags would all go to one place, and that person, who might not be into crafts but who wants to participate, would ship them to various places where they would be needed.

Measurements for jacket and pant pockets is a GREAT idea! If you could send me those, that would be awesome.

I had thought about calling this particular project Operation Bag O' Home.

Thank you for all of your input. I think this project might be an interesting way to bring our 2 groups together! Let me know what you think.

It sounds good to me. Maybe I'll do a poll and see if there's a lot of interest from the gals at militarylove. We'll see what we see.

Well, I know three large-ish groups of troops that would work for your idea. I have my husband's Captain's name, he is who I would send large things for my husband's troop (lots of guys!), as well as contact info for my husband's old troop (same squad, different troop.)

My big sister also adopted a whole Troop of Marines she's supporting and I'm sure she could use the help sending them things. She is maus_driver if you want to ask her about helping with her group of men.

I also have several FRG contacts through Ft Drum, NY, and there are a lot of wives in FRG groups at my community, we could see if any of them are up to getting donations, or designating a key person to receive donations to send to Their Boys/Girls... what about that? Would that help? ;)

ME AGAIN!

Also, sorry I should have put this all in ONE post. Argh...

If you want to do a designating one key person through an FRG or through me to ship things, it would really be good to help with shipping... say if you send 5 Bags O' Home to your "key sender", you also send 3$ to help with their shipping fees - although we get free boxes/supplies for shipment, it's still 9$/box (flat rate) to send it out.

Yeah, do a poll and see what happens...I think this is the kind of project that could really help a lot of people....we could do the crafting end, maybe some peeps in here could coordinate the "stuffing" and then there would be a group of contacts who would do the shipping...something of that sort.

Yay!

oh! Also, check out Here - it's from Any Soldier where you can choose to, rather than adopting an individual for the duration of their deployment, send larger packages to individuals OR groups/troops/squads/companies/etc. of Troops one at a time. They post what they need, sometimes, as well. Check it out, it's good for "one time" shipments.
