Just found out that Ms. Lera, from the neighborhood, passed away in her sleep. She was 68. She was a short little thing, who smoked those little cigars. She had a raspy voice, which I heard frequently when she made calls to the people in the community to remind us of meetings and events. It was obvious she wasn't in good health, but I barely knew her to talk to, so I don't know any specifics. I hadn't seen her much during the fall, but she was at the January meeting (and Feb, I think). I was too busy to say much to her -- I think (hope) I at least smiled or waved or said a quick hello. Now I wish I'd given her a hug. This is the second elderly neighbor to pass in just about a year. Last February it was Frances, from a few doors down, who I'd barely gotten to know. She was a good person. There are a lot of elderly people in our neighborhood. I'm going to be giving more of them hugs. Life is truly too short.
