It was quiet when Duo arrived in town. Late enough most people wouldn't just be wandering around town and that was exactly how he wanted it. How he felt comfortable. Danny was on his way back from one of the gas stations, soda and munchies in a bag. He was still convinced that Cam had fixed that damn coin toss, but wasn't sure how to prove it short of beating his friend up.

The new guy (and he had to be new, wandering around with that bag) looked a little lost, so Danny stopped.

"Hey, welcome to town."

Duo was not lost. He was surveying. Gathering intel. Not lost.

He slapped on a grin when someone approached him though. "Hey. Little late to be out shopping, isn't it?"

Danny smirks and holds up the bag. "It's never too late for a munchie run. I'm Danny."

What a nice, normal name! "Duo."

He made no move to shake the other boy's hand, like normal people did. That wasn't the way Duo rolled. He was too busy taking in the guy anyway, making snap decisions on what was safe and what wasn't. Danny looked a little older, but not much. A year, two at the most, and was scrawny enough to appear okay to be casual around, to be off his guard.

As long as he didn't turn out being built like Duo and the rest of the Gundam pilots, with more muscle on them than was normal, he seemed okay. And friendly, too!

Danny figured it was a cultural thing and so didn't offer his hand. He did ask the obvious question though.

"So, where and when are you from?"

Not so obvious to the new guy. Duo blinked once before answering, taking the second to wonder if this Danny fellow was, in fact, crazy. "AC 196," he answered like it was the most obvious thing ever. "L2 Cluster."

"Oh." Danny is rather clueless, but is reining in the curiousity tonight. "Well, you're on Earth, 2008."

"I know." Well, he'd known the Earth part anyway. "A little non-war torn vacation." He flashed a grin. "It's just what I was looking for."

Danny thinks that over and shrugs. "Well, you picked the right part of Earth anyway."

Duo almost couldn't believe the response that came out of him.

"Hn."

That wouldn't do. Wouldn't do at all.

"So what's the deal with this place? Which direction are you going? We can walk and talk." Staying still when unnecessary wasn't something he'd like to do.

Danny points the direction he was headed. "Up that way and around Blueberry Hill." He shifts the bag to his other hand and starts walking again.

"Milieux is kind of... I like to call it a catch-all. You never know who is going to end up here. It's a pretty cool place though. Any idea where you're staying at yet?"

Blueberry Hill was a weird name for something. This from the boy who's home was called 'L2' and a bunch of numbers.

"Not really." The perils of picking a place to stop at randomly. He brushed it off, though. "I'll find something. How's the school here?"

Blueberry wasn't any weirder than the other streets in town.

"Well, if you need a place to stay tonight, there's always the YMCA and the Bates Motel. The Y has free rooms though. If you get close enough to my house to meet Momma, she'll probably offer to let you stay in the spare room." He eyes Duo's hair, concerned. "If you do though, prepare to have a small girl ask to play make up artist."

"The school is pretty damn awesome, and there's dorms there."

He was thinking about heading over to the school when he noticed his hair being checked out, and reached around to pull his braid over his shoulder with a curious look.

"Huh?"

What was all this about make up and Mommas and little girls? And what did any of that have to do with his hair?

Danny snickers and shakes his head. He could explain the whole thing about Cam, Chi Chi and the makeup, but he doesn't want to scare the guy his first night here. "Just warning you about the makeup crazy eight-year old if you get an offer to stay. I'd offer it myself, but I'm not in charge of the house."

It took a lot to scare Duo Maxwell! He was a soldier! He was god of death! Kind of. He was practically fearless!

The Mitchells might work, though.

"It's cool," Duo laughed. Little did he know the powers of Momma Mitchell. "Thanks for the thought but I'll be okay. It's not my first time in a new town on Earth." Yes, he had to specify that.
