The small talk from the park to the diner had been nice, easy, and Meg found Jack's company both welcoming and warm. It livened up her night and she thought it much better than laying on a cold bench alone in a gazebo. Even though she did enjoy the peace of that.

"It smells so wonderful in here," she said after she was seated, looking across the table at him. "But I think I'm a sucker for the whole waffle with strawberries and whipped cream."

"Ah a traditionalist!" Jack exclaimed and when the waitress made her way over to them he politely waited for Meg to give her order before ordering himself a steak and eggs.

With a side of coffee please!

The necessities taken care of he turned his attention back to Meg and smiled in a friendly manner.

"So, what year are you here at the school?"

She smiled and shrugged a little. "I can't help it; I've loved the strawberries and whipped cream ever since I was little." Meg gave over her order with a side of coffee as well and sat back, feeling sort of strange. Like this wasn't a date but... was it? She had her own money, so no... just a friendly sort of hi, how are you, nice to meet you sort of deal. Right?

"I'm a junior, and I enjoy it very much. Just one more year until I graduate." Her smile proved just how happy she was about that too. "What about you Captain Jack, what brings you here?"

"Strawberries and whipped cream are a wonderfully versatile combination," Jack agreed with a hint of a roguish twinkle in his blue eyes but he really was trying to behave.

"Just seemed a good place to be," he answered her question with a ready smile. "So, college plans after school?"
