Title: The Fallen

Summary: Daniel has horrifying dreams after his redemption. Post-“Ballad of Fallen Angels.”
Author’s Notes: I do seem to be writing a lot of these prompts around Daniel’s fall to the Dark Side in “From Fear to Eternity”. Heh. Also, forgive the permutation on Catholic confession, I couldn't help myself. It seemed like something Daniel would do in the face of his crimes. ^^;
“The Fallen”
They were swarming all over him, shouting and screaming bloody murder.
“DIE!” They all shouted. “Let him die like all the people he murdered!”
Daniel screamed and ran as fast as he could. Somehow, no matter how much of the Force he put into his strides, he could not outrun the mob. They seized his arms and pulled him back into the crowd, dragging him perpetually back.
“Criminal!” They all shouted. “Murderer!”
They forced him on top of a pile of wood, against a wooden stake, and tied him down. Many of the mob carried lit torches.
They're going to burn me like a witch, Daniel realized.
The mob lit the stake as Daniel struggled to free himself from his bonds. The Force did not seem to acknowledge him, no matter how much he called out; his friends would not acknowledge him either. He was alone, and he would die.
I deserve it, he thought bitterly. They're right. I'm a criminal. I deserve this. The flames licked his skin, and he resisted screaming in agony. He turned his head to the sky, and whispered, “Forgive me.”
...And then he woke up.
The room was a blur, as it always was when he wasn't wearing his glasses. There were no flames, no angry mob, no people wanting to burn him at the stake. Just him and his dark, moonlit apartment.
He sighed, hanging his head. “Force, forgive me, for I have fallen...”
Then he slowly lowered himself back onto his pillows, and willed his mind to forget the horrible nightmare.
