I read the first one of these because I found the PDF and I thought it was... okay. It was only okay enough that I didn't bother reading the next two and Wikipediaed them, lol. I was pretty disappointed with them, ngl, because the internet had told me they were so great and awesome etc but I wound up not loving them as much as the internet did. (This is apparently the story of my life lately.)
I did think the series was addressing interesting themes though, which is nice to see in YA lit. Even though I have no idea where the magical cameras were hiding in the arena, I thought the idea of surveillance and television and acting and how that influences things was neat.
IA 100% with you. I thought the writing was certainly alright, good when you consider her background, but nothing to write home about (maybe two sentence that really hit it per book

I was really unimpressed with the writing at first but once I found out she used to write for TV I thought that explained a LOT, so I felt a little less annoyed with her lirl. I am curious about the movie because I actually think this is the kind of story that might be better told in film, or even in a miniseries or something

OMG, THE SHEER TERROR OF SHOWING DW TO FRIENDS! MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU (says the very secular european who'd probably get nothing much more than a dry chuckle out of Big G for any prayers)!
So many things that can go wrong! What if they think it's silly? What if they don't "get" classic scifi? What if they start questioning the sonic and otehr things with their "reason"? What if they don't like Rose? WHAT IF THEY DON'T LIKE STARWHALES?!?!?
