Gee, I've actually been reading this week - professionally published papers, printed on bound paper and everything. "Clearcut" by Nina Shengold nicely evoked the spirit of the American Northwest in the 1970s. I enjoyed her take on the fluidity of love and relationships. Wish the ending hadn't been so bleak, but I still liked the story.
On the other hand, Suzanne Brockmann's story, "Hot Target" was badly written pulp. I liked Jules and thought their was one great kiss in the story. However, every time he called Adam 'sweetie' it made my eye twitch. How is that professional conduct for an FBI agent working on a case? And the hero of the story was interesting in the beginning, but turned into a proseltyzing mouthpiece for the author.
Then I saw "The Prestige", which was awesome, even though I wished I had been wrong about one of the plot twists because I figured it out pretty early and was hoping to be surprised.
This led me to the bookstore b/c I was going to buy the book. Unfortunately, the only edition at B. Dalton's was one with a big blurb about the movie on the cover. I hate that, so I'll try online.
To round out the book theme, I got this questionnaire from
sireenswar 1. One book that changed your life: Robert Jordan's The Eye of the World totally rejuvenated my interest in epic fantasy. I'm disappointed in what's become of the series, but I adore this 1st book.
2. One Book That You've Read More Than Once: William Goldman's The Princess Bride
3. One Book That You'd Want On A Desert Island: Haven't read it, but Gregory J. Davenport's Wilderness Living sounds like it would come in handy. As much as I love to read, I'm a total suburban girl who would need all the help she could get.
4. One Book That Made You Laugh: The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy had me giggling for hours.
5. One Book That Made You Cry: Thomas Hardy's Jude the Obscure did a pretty good job of traumatizing me.
6. One Book That You Wish You Had Written: Robin Wayne Bailey's Shadowdance (alternatively, any of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker books.)
7. One Book You Wish Had Never Been Written: I wish I could scrub my brain of all memory of Firefly by Piers Anthony. (Clive Barker's The Great and Secret Show runs a very close 2nd.)
8. One Book That You Are Reading Right Now: Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear
9. One Book That You Have Been Meaning To Read: I have a very long list, but I keep thinking of Alta by Mercedes Lackey.
