Concert! *is still boucing twelve hours later* Great Big Sea concert!

I've been dying to see them live since I was first introduced to their music eight years ago. Every time they come to where I live I'm either out of town that weekend, don't hear about it until afterwards, or I'm just so flat broke I can't possibly justify tickets even though they're not all that expensive.

But I finally got to go see them! And YAY OMG SO AWESOME! Alan Doyle really knows how to play a crowd, and he and Sean McCann have a great dynamic between them for goofing around. I'm sure a lot of it was scripted, but quite a bit did seem to be off the cuff. Twice Alan was laughing so hard he had to stop singing or screwed up an into to the song. It seems like they really are still good friends, which is wonderful to see.

I did check the info on all my cds after we got home because I was curious why almost none of my favourite songs had been played except the ones that are their biggest hits, and I discovered that in the last cd or two they apparently lost a member along the way. Since most of my favourites are sung by the same person and I didn't hear that voice last night, I can only assume the ones I like were sung by the guy who left. ;p

But they were still wonderful, and sounded amazing, and it was SO MUCH FUN. I've only been to two concerts before; an NKOTB one in Detroit when I was about twelve that I only barely remember, and an Arrogant Worms 'concert' in Kingston that was held in a hotel banquet room, with everyone sitting around tables having dinner. Very cool, but not nearly the same energy.

If you're not familiar with Great Big Sea, they're a Newfoundland band that plays old trad songs from the Maritimes and Ireland, and also pop songs written themselves with a Maritimes sort of flavour. Any group that regularly makes use of fiddle, accordian, tin whistle, penny whistle and the bhodran is okay with me. ^_______^
